'science for sale'; drugs for all

Bill Moyers had a great program this week on "Now". Told of advertisers in charge of drug research and medical 'education.' Followed a doctor around as he went to 4 fancy dinners, he got paid $500 a meal. Showed medical students being taken to New York for a fun filled vacation, gratis of drug companies. Discussed how advertisers are spending tens of millions of dollars to buy companies that do drug research. It is a handy system: plan the studies, publish only what is favorable, advertise the drugs to docs and the public, rake in the bucks.

Information about this is available in the New York Times 11/22
extensive article by Melody Petersen
"Madison Ave. Plays Growing Role in Drug Research"

check it out, it is important.
