a district of columbia nurses association member has been named a national academies 2004 african-american portrait collection honoree. registered nurse vernice doris ferguson was honored at the 18th annual african-american history month program held at the national academies in washington, dc, feb. 23. ferguson is senior fellow emeritus, fagin family chair in cultural diversity, school of nursing, the university of pennsylvania. she served for 12 years as the assistant chief medical director for nursing programs in the veterans administration. in this role she was responsible for more than 60,000 nursing personnel. previously, she was the chief nurse at two va medical centers and chief of the nursing department at the clinical center, national institutes of health. contact: kathy goodman at email@example.com.
