registry requesting access to my medical files - Page 2Register Today!

Quote from scrabble nurseHi,
A registry I was applying for online emailed me a bunch of forms to sign and I was taken aback by one of them. It was a medical release form for my medical records! The form also requested my doctors name, phone number and address. I understand a new employer requesting a physical, ppd, and immunization forms, but I feel like this is an invasion of privacy. I asked the human resource director at another agency I work for his opinion. He stated it doesn't sound kosher and I shouldn't sign.
What are your thoughts?
- Dec 9, '10 by TDCHIMWow. I thought I'd heard some out-there requests from employers in my day, but asking that you give the company permission to peruse your medical history? Good lord, no, don't sign that paperwork! And while you're at it, an anonymous tip about the situation to the folks at the Dept. of Labor might not be a bad idea. You don't work for this company and therefore aren't depending on it for your income. There's no way for them to know the tip came from you (use an unregistered cheap prepaid cell phone or the phone of a non-nurse friend or relation with a different last name if you're nervous), so there's little likelihood it could come back to bite you.
