Fifteen of the laid-off workers are full time, the release said. It did not say what positions those workers held or where they worked

this doesn't say it was nurses....

They are being a little disingenuous. They have to spend the money to upgrade their EHR (which increases patient safety and saves money in the long run) and medicare reimbursements are continuing to decline. Yes, both of those issues are parcel to the ACA, but both were also on the horizon long before the ACA and were inevitable in any event, with or without it. It's a little like blaming H1N1 flu on the ACA; after all, hardly anyone had it before- It's an Obama conspiracy!

The Affordable Care Act has been blamed for everything from employee layoffs to increased tire wear. It hasn't even fully taken effect yet. I don't buy everything I hear.

Unfortunately now health systems have a scapegoat (ACA) when they want to cut staff and expenses. Every place I've ever worked has always been looking at ways to reduce staff and keep more money. Were I work now they are seriously decreasing the number of unit clerks by making nurses that don't look busy enter orders and such. It won't be long before hospitals become even more unsafe.

My hours were being cut at my hospital job BEFORE President Obama was even elected. The reason given was that people were losing their jobs, hence their health insurance; so they stayed out of the hospitals, which in turn drove our census down. I was an LPN at that time. So, I tried to get supplemental work at nursing homes. But, apparently, lots of those same newly-jobless people decided to take their loved ones out of those facilities because of their guaranteed fixed income but also because the reason some of them were confined to those facilities was due to the fact that their families were unable to look after them because of their jobs. So, the census in the nursing homes declined as well; which caused a lot of cancellations there. This was in 2008. George W. Bush was in office when all of that transpired. That's what drove me back into the classroom in pursuit of the RN. I wasn't no longer making enough money to live on and even with my years of experience (24 back then), the facilities were cutting back so much that they only hired the one employee whose educational background stated that this person could perform ALL aspects of the job, whether I had the experience in the task or not. Obamacare was not even heard of then and even Obama himself was hoping to win the thankless opportunity of cleaning up a country that was in such a mess!

I live in an FHA funded housing apt. Since the new government regulations have taken effect, we (all seniors and disabled people who live on fixed incomes) are now being charged for anything that's damaged. My dishwasher panel (a tiny strip that comes with adhesive on the back of it) was replaced today. I have been charged $36.81 for that thing. Here we are, the poor people now paying for items we did't have to pay for in the past since this president took office all because a budget hasn't yet been put in place. I can't stand Mr Obama or his wife. The sooner they get out the better.

While this is very off-topic, your hate might be misplaced. If you are upset because of "a budget hasn't yet been put in place", you need to look at Congress. They are responsible for the budget approval process.

On-topic: I believe this has very little to do with the ACA. Like BlueDevil said, the ACA is just being used mainly as a catch-all for anything healthcare related that needs to be done. I know my local hospital is currently going through the same stuff (even with the same amount of blame on the ACA when most people don't even know what the bill includes...yay.)

I typically find that use of the term "Obamacare" indicates political disapproval of everything related to President Obama and Democrats and that statements with its inclusion are rarely objective.

I get so weary of posts blaming this or that on Obamacare. A little less hype, a little more research, please.
