Nobody likes "Obamacare", so what should we replace it with?

Nurses Activism

A few years ago I asked a Doctor I worked with how he would reform healthcare, his response was "don't ask a Doctor, if I want to know what's based for patients I ask a Nurse".

Liberals don't like our current Health Care reform because they view it as being too conservative and conservatives don't like it because they view it as being to liberal. The Liberal suggestions for reforming health care seem easy to find, what are the conservative suggestions, and mainly, how would a conservative nurse reform health care?

This politically conservative nurse (registered Republican who exercises her voting rights regularly) agrees with much of the Patient Protection & Affordable Care Act ... but would replace it with universal, single-payer coverage.

Me, too. But I would NOT let the federal government run it......in my world, an independent commission made up of medical professionals (including nurses!), attorneys, and financial gurus would administer the program, and give block grants to the 50 states to be distributed by state commissions made up of the same types of experts. Yes, I realize there's potential for corruption in this scenario, but hardly worse than that which already exists in the insurance industry and government at all levels.

I am not poliitcally conservative, but I agree with what Viva says. Let's just please get all the for-profit insurance companies out of it.

What do we need? Universal health care just like, you know, every country in the world that has a "top rated" health care system.

Humanity has evolved to the point where health care should no longer be a privilege, but a right. I'm a liberal and while I think "Obamacare" is a step in the right direction, I think it's a very little step. It's a big handout to insurance companies and does nothing to address the issue of rising costs for health care in this country. I simply do not understand the resistance of the right to progression of American health care, especially considering "Obamacare" is essentially exactly what the GOP offered up in resistance to "Hillarycare" in the 90's.

I think the thing that irks me the most about conservatives and their whole fight against progressive health care is how hypocritical they can be. Example: I had a nurse argue with me that Canadians hated their health care system (despite the fact that my girlfriend at the time was from Canada and her whole family praised it) and the best health care system in the world is Romania, where you pay for what you can pay for and that's the treatment you get. Because I'm sure if her son was in a terrible accident, she would be fine with pulling the plug because she couldn't afford full treatment.

It is interesting to note that the "individual mandate" that has so many politically conservative folks alarmed, was initially a REPUBLICAN proposal. Go figure...

Something else repugs never mention is is the resoundingly successful Single Payer system already in place and managed by the Federal Government: The Department of Veteran's Affairs.

Thanks for calling "Obamacare" by it's correct name, the PPACA, ACA for short.

I'm not even going to do into this one, but I will say that today's Republicans are anything but conservative as compared to times past. So, to group conservatives as being automatically a Republican is not the case anymore. I am very conservative, but can't stand Republicans in our modern days. There are very few true conservatives left in this country.

We have to keep things simple for those in the GOP. It's like using pictures for kids. ;)

I will agree with you on this one. The GOP has become a total fringe group at this point. They've let themselves become hijacked by Tea Party radicals. Ronald Reagan would be hated his own party as much as Mitt Romney is.

I've always tried to avoid the term "obamacare" as well since it is typically used as a slur.

Although it has now been embraced by Obama administration:
