Constituent Member Associations (CMAs) and the American Nurses Association (ANA) are working in concert to implement a Nationwide State Legislative Agenda on Nurse Staffing that focuses on prohibition of mandatory overtime; whistleblower protections for nurses who want to report unsafe conditions without retribution; collection and public reporting of nursing-sensitive quality data related to RN staffing and patient outcomes; mandating health care facilities develop and implement valid and reliable nurse staffing systems; and state collection of nursing supply and demand data for workforce projections. In addition, CMAs are supporting bills that call for legislative studies on the nursing workforce and funding for nursing education.
