It doesn't matter to me if the nurses vote for or against unionization at their facility. However, being a member in a Union has nothing to do with whether you are a professional or not. Some of the most powerful unions in this country are made up of professionals.

The Chamber of Commerce is a union for businessman as is the NFIB, etc.

That being said the equation of union membership as non-professional is a fatuous statement on its face.

I could not find in a google search what the Chamber of Congress is. I looked up the NFIB which calls themselves a small business advocacy group. Membership is voluntary and they think pretty poorly of labor unions judging from the action center link on their home page which states "STOP THE UNION AGENDA" and links to the following:

http://www.nfib.com/object/NFIBCardCheck.html

Thank you very much as I do not have this link on my own website but will be adding it now.

We voted against the California Nurses Association twice at my hospital, Western Medical Center in Santa Ana, California. I am proud to have had a small hand in educating the nurses at Mt Sinai.

I guess you ment Chamber of Commerce?

They don't consider themselves a Labor Union either and membership is purely voluntary.

Here is some links to their website and their position on unions.

Judging from these statements the Chamber of COMMERCE is not a union.

But call me FATUOUS....... http://www.m-w.com/dictionary/fatuous

I was contacted by RN's there through my website many months ago and have kept in touch ever since. They let me know via email once the votes were counted.
They actual election was held June but the NNOC stalled on counting the votes until earlier this week. I guess they anticipated the outcome.
I did a search and come up with this link:

I hope it helps!

well its clear the business community is happy about the outcome here. undoubtedly this is a significant defeat for the young union in chicago. it will send a chill through nurses trying to organize in the future.

The NNOC is no young union!!! It is a branch of California Nurses Association and they have been around for YEARS. The CNA is having a hard time fooling the nurses in California anymore so has had to branch out to other states.

the cna is the fastest growing union, member for member in the united states. it is very young by comparrison (u.b.c was founded in 1886) and is only a couple of years old in the city of chicago.

the cna can be voted out of the hospitals in california or at any facilty. after the 5:1 pt. to nurse ratio, this is not likely to happen.
