Is healthcare a right or privilege?

If it is a right, then we have some work to do. If a privelidge, you get what you can pay for, right? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

Again, the government is not the bestower of rights. God is. "certain unalienable rights, endowed by our Creator".

What about atheists? If God doesn't exist, who bestows rights?

Atheists don't get rights!!! :lol2::lol2::lol2:

Just kidding, just because they don't believe in the same creator that I do, doesn't mean they don't get the same rights that I have been given.

I think the biggest problem that I have seen is that any "right" that the government can give, they can also take away. Therefore it will only be a right so long as the government is able to pay for it. Unfortunately I feel that the ones that are in charge are not experienced or educated enough in business and economics. Trillions of dollars are already sitting outside of our borders and more will leave when taxes reach punitve levels.

When the entitlements go beyond what the "contributors of society" are putting into the gov't coffers, something is going to have to give. Which "right" will the gov't take away first?

please excuse any mispellings, I was educated in the public school system:yeah:

The only rights we get depend on who is in power and who power represents. All sort of documents and publications come out in every country exclaiming rights that represent nothing other that the political forces at work. Because the framers of the constitution were landowning males, the constitution does not guarantee the right to vote by anyone other than these people.

So it doesn't really matter if health care is a right or privilege. Its entirely up to the people to make that decision, which is where all authority should come from.

Because the current system is controlled entirely by two corporate run parties, their interests are what dictate the current broken, inefficient, health care system that we have today.

A simple way to find out how people would feel about health care is to put a national referendum together that asks people hoe much of their health care costs should go to profit and redundant overhead. We could then take the average and give that to insurance companies and leave the remainder toward training, better wages and staffing, up-to-date equipment, etc.

This has always been an interesting topic in which our country has not come to a consensus on. IMHO it is both depending on the circumstances. Emergency situations (immediate threats to life/limb) are a right. Elective cosmetic surgery, birth control/ Viagra, etc. are a privilege. How the above are paid for is an entirely different question.

Hospitals need to be putting birth control in high school kids lunches....Also, life and limb are negotiable terms. If people can misconstrue words in the constitution to say it claims its the governments job to give them welfare...then there are people out there that will say their cold is life or limb..their head ache is life or limb. We all know its not. But theres a lot of stupid people out there that want free stuff and will find lobbyists to get it for them

I could be wrong, but I think that "stupid" people have little access to lobbyists, similarly, "poor" people rarely find lobbyists anxious to take up their cause as well.

Please, there are lobbyists for everyone. Dont be naive.

who is being naive?

who is being naive?

stupid is a relative term. But its naive to think that there arent lobbyists out there for everyone's "cause"

please remember that "stupid" was not my word, I merely borrowed it. As well, I never suggested that there were not lobbyists for everyone's "cause". I did, however, state that "stupid" people generally have poor access to lobbyists. My father was a lobbyist in an industry for a period of time...he rarely (if ever) encountered "stupid" people who were seeking his assistance or services.

Given that this may be an issue of semantics, I would appreciate it if you didn't assume that this middle aged grandmother with more than 30 years of nursing experience in a variety of settings and specialties is "naive", which is also a "relative" term.

hmmm. Ok it would be unwise to assume there are not lobbyists out there for all walks of life. Including people who are a tiny bit below average intelligence yet whos actions would suggest anything but that.

not really interested in having some sort of ego contest in this thread...you may interpret my posts any ol' way you want and assign whatever descriptors to them as your experiences allow.
