What, exactly, should the government do about it? And how much health care should everyone get? Personally, I have no faith in a group of legislators making a plan for dinner. I'll take THEIR health care anytime they're willing to give it up to me. Having this merry band of mostly nimcompoops run a rational health care system is asking far too much - actually I think the brightest people in the kingdom could't do it. Designing the ACA in the middle) of the night and having it signed without being read (do you think anyone actually read the whole bill? I think not0 was an effrontery. We need thousands of pilot programs to be completed to figure out what the actual consequences of good intentions actually are. Could you really not see it coming that businesses were going to shrink their employees work weeks so that they would not have to provide coverage? So now middle class people will have no health care coverage along with smaller paychecks - brilliant! It's WAY to complicated for any one person, entity or government to have the hubris to come up with a "plan. It will take decades of doing the studies, making the tweaks required and getting the public to accept that the old American order of health care is over. How much money do we want to dedicate to futile care while the elderly get
almost nothing in LTC? WE ALL have to figure this very hard stuff out. Of course, I'm nursing for 41 years and know that, in the end, money dictates ethics and that's not always a bad thing.

We don't have a right to health care anymore than we have a right to fire protection, police, electricity, running water, or flush toilets. Let's not even begin to discuss our right to access the internet or cell phone coverage. There is no right to radio, television, newspapers, or books.

    What's the beef, exactly?

In my opinion, state government can be just as intrusive and regulatory in our personal lives as the federal government, perhaps more.

Not intrusive to me...especially when private companies are usually ones that are riding in the backs of the people more than the government.

I truly believe in "WE THE PEOPLE"...WE are the government...still trying to form a more "perfect" union...I also believe in really removing barriers to make it accessible, regardless of income, culture, disability, personality issues, whatever.

my first thought was healthcare is not a basic human right, because it is a service
provided to an individual by others, however,
article 25 of the universal declaration of human rights says it is

Instead of dictating who pays for what, it should have been addressed why we pay so damn much... Starting with we must be about to negotiate prices with Big Pharma and medical device companies.
