Texas BON for bipolar disorder

Nurses Disabilities

Published

Hi~

I am new here and an excited to find this site. I am applying for LVN school and the deadline is June 14, 2013. My problem is this: in 2009 I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. I have been stable for 3 years and know that I would make a great nurse. i feel that I should disclose this to the BON before turning in my application to the school, but I wanted to know the repercussions for not disclosing, and if claiming that I have a mental illness would be against HIPPA guidelines.

Also if I do disclose, would I know in time for the Fall deadline?

Thank you so much for replying!

The BON has finally cleared me for licensure, two weeks before the last day to apply for the spring semester. :). What a relief! Hopefully I'll have more good news soon. Keep your fingers crossed!

That's great news, bella_!!! I'm so glad for you......I know this has been some tough sledding. Go YOU!!! :singing:

Thank you,VivaLasViejas. That means a lot. :)

Hi bella I am a nurse with a mental condition, and its pleseant to see some people going into the field that have mental illnesses. it would be a great triumph to get through nursing school alone, and needless to say work and retire. I personally disclosed earlier this year in February. I was referred to tpapn, but then I declined. So they put some formal charges on me, but I spoke to the lawyer that provided legal counsel to my investigator. he told me as long as I agree to tpapn they will be taken off. Did the board refer you to tpapn?

Hi Vindication~ nice to meet you. :) Yes, I was referred to TPAPN and I will gladly comply in order to become a nurse. BTW, I was accepted to nursing school and start in three weeks. Yay for me! :)
