My parents and siblings all have dentures. My younger sister got hers when she was 21. My teeth have been filled countless times. I've had 5 permanent extractions and one root canal. I'm in so much intense pain currently due to an abcess at the root. Apparently the nerve is dead. I'm taking ATB, Norco abd Ibuprofen like crazy. Orajel even, nothing helps much. I'm hurting terribly and am growing discouraged. I am coming to terms with the fact that I'm fighting a never-ending battle and that I should follow in my family's footprints by getting dentures. I'm willing to do just about anything to stop my pain. Its all-consuming.

I'm so young to be getting dentures. I wonder what it will be like. Will it be worth it to be pain free?

As noted in the Terms of Service, we cannot advise you regarding medical (or dental) issues; the best thing we can tell you is to consult with your dental care provider and allow him or her to explain all the risks and benefits of getting dentures. TBH, I don't blame you for wanting something done; what you've described must be agony. Please see your dentist ASAP!

I went two days ago and he said I need a root canal ...to the tune of $2,000. I've been battling my teeth for years. I fill, clean and hope but they eventually die anyway. I don't want medical advice. I'm just curious if those that have dentures are happy with them, if you feel less/more attractive now, if it affects what you eat. Etc.

My younger sister has them and she has a beautiful smile now as compared to before. Her husband doesnt even know she wears them!

I'm going for a consult in a few days. There are implants that u can get to lock the dentures in place. Apparently they make the bottom denture much more stable. Wish me luck!

There is almost nothing worse than achy teeth! Some of us inherit good teeth as my husband did and the rest of us don't. I have six crowns with the possibility of two more down the road. My dentist (a neighbor who is a pediatric dentist) says much of my dental pain in the upper back and above my lip and up the sides of my nose, is really sinus pain, and he must be right because sinus meds do help.

Our younger shar-pei has ear pain that the vet says is really displaced sinus/allergy-type pain. Not offering medical advice, just sharing.

I would get that treated and go from there.

They say that one of yours (your own tooth) is worth ten of theirs (dentures).

I went for the consult and had a kind, reapectful dentist that gave it to me straight. He said I will need about 9 crowns, a root canal, two bridges and 3 fillings to keep the teeth I have......basically it's an uphill battle and will not be easy....and ill have constant issues. I decided to meet with a dental surgeon next month to formulate a plan of care. I'm sort of mourning their loss, but excited for the future. My family really get along great with their dentures. I'm sure I will too. Too bad I have to part with my money too! That was my BSN fund. :(

Dental work is so expensive!

Good luck and best wishes!

Sounds like you will be more comfortable.

Is there a dental school nearby? They usually have clinics for low income people. If there isn't, check with your local hospital because they sometimes know about programs.

I decided against it. I got a partial a few months ago, which I dislike...very much. Now I'm considering a "dental vacation" in Puerto Vallerta, Mexico.

I worked in dentistry for 26 years before getting my nursing license. In 99% of cases, what you have is far superior to anything a lab can make you. Of course you will hear someone say "haven't been back to the dentist since the day I got my false teeth, best decision I ever made". Those people are full of it, their dentures are the ones you see on funny home videos that come flying out of their mouth when they sneeze!

I would think long and hard about extracting natural teeth and replacing them with plastic.[
