My backround is in NICU and Pediatric DME Case Management and Home Care. I have 2 herniated discs and spinal cord compression from C5 to C7. I have nerve impingement at C7 that is controlled with epidural steroids and have a weight lift restriction of 15 pounds. I was out of work for a while and have been looking for full time work for over two years. All of the companies I have applied to have requirements of being able to lift 50 pounds regardless of whether the heaviest thing you will ever lift is a pencil! Out of 956 nursing positions available in my area, I qualify for none of them due to weight lift restrictions or not enough experience in that field. No one wants to train anyone anymore. I tried for disability but was denied. I have no money and I guess my next venture will be to go and try Vocational Rehabilitation. I am 50 and depressed. I am tired of all of the rejection! I am a smart person and catch on quickly. I have over 30 years of experience, but it doesn't seem to matter. Any ideas?

  4. Give education a try. Consider trying for a clinical nurse instructor, or even tutoring. Something has got to be better than nothing right? Good luck, my bedside days are number as well r/t lower back issues.
