Accommodations for ADHD/Anxiety in clinicals?

Nurses Disabilities

Did anyone receive any accommodations in clinicals? What were they? Were they offered or did you have to be persistant? How did they help or not help? Thanks!!!

That's a great question and I'm sorry it's taken so long for someone to answer!

As per the ADA, schools are supposed to give reasonable accommodations for ADHD as well as anxiety disorders. However, they can't help students unless the students make them aware of their needs. I would talk to your clinical instructor and possibly the course coordinator about your issues and needs.

Regarding the anxiety, have you explored non-drug approaches such as meditation, breathing exercises or aromatherapy? My biggest concern with a student taking an anti-anxiety medication in the clinical setting is that if there's an incident and the student gets drug tested, there could be problems, even if the med is prescribed.

Please keep us posted, okay?
