I do it for the valuable information :) Nobody in my family is in Nursing... Everybody is a teacher or in business. I never was in the hospital growing up... I guess I don't have a special story. Around 4th grade I wrote a paper on becoming a nurse.... But I never "knew" what I wanted to be when I grew up. Randomly one day in high school, I decided I wanted to become a CNA. I did that, volunteered at a hospital, job shadowed my boyfriend's mom... I have yet to start Nursing school, in fact, I just graduated high school. But I think this is where I belong... I hope that I'm smart enough to do it. None of my family understands... They're supportive. But they just have no advice to offer.... That's why I love AllNurses :)

I just signed up as a member here. I am not a nurse. My path here went through the Nurses ROCK Facebooks page.

I liked that page because I so agreed with the title - then so enjoyed the cartoons that where posted.

I had breast cancer 2 years ago - 2 operations and 30 radiation treatments. It was no dance on roses, as many of you are daily witnesses to. The kindness and competency of 99% of the nurses I "had to deal with" was so above and beyond my expectations and (often) needs, that I felt that giving a bit of support (such as a Facebook Like) was the least I could give back. (I have also thanked directly and also given one of my sculptures (I work with clay) as a thank-you to the entire staff for how wonderful they are.

I have been reading an old vent thread - over 280 pages! almost every night. I have so many times wanted to give a LIKE to a post, but couldn't, because I wasn't a member. Then the thread went to discussing translators and language skills and such. I would love to know where I could write a little post about my experience as a patient in a country with 4 official languages and a LOT of immigrant staff (mostly from Germany).

Also, I would love to tell you guys about how a distraught cancer patient was tackled by a power-hungry male night-nurse and by the doctor in charge.

I want to thank each an every one of you for the care and love you give to your patients (maybe not all of those on the vent-thread ;)) each and every day, no matter how your own day might suck. I could never, ever do your job! I gag at the smell of poo! Some nurse _I_ would make! But that gives me all the more appreciation for those of you that CAN and WANT TO do this vital job! THANK YOU!!!

I'm not even sure how I ended up here, but I'm so glad I did! I keep coming back everyday for the knowledge and entertainment. I'm still finishing up my prereqs, so everything I know about nursing I've learned from this site... And that's quite a bit!!

I have already responded to that campagne. They are too numerous to name and I was in for less than a week each op, and I am totally hopeless at remembering names. Could I say that their name is Legion? ;)

I am doing much better now. A few issues with scar tissue and lymph draininge massage, but have found a wonderful therapist now and they are not such issues anymore. (had 10 nodes removed, so this will probably be ongoing)

Thank you very much for your good wishes and your posting advice.!

I come to AN because I work in PDN and have a lot of downtime. :wacky:

OK, aaand.. honestly my number one reason is to educate myself and improve my practice and career.

I agree with the previous poster about the drama being fun too. :D

I sign up with all nurses for several reasons: talk about my profession with other nurses, find out reality different than mine, see other point of view, ect...

Last but not the least, try to improve my english that is very poor...

I visit allnurses.com because I want to get to know the nursing field a little better. I'm currently a pre-nursing student, hoping to get into nursing school next semester. I definitely read posts in order to understand some of the jargon nurses use! With my trusty Google tab, if I don't understand what someone says, like what something is or means, I just look it up. It's simple, I know, but it has helped me gain some knowledge in my free time while browsing the threads.

I've only been a member a little over a year, but I've grown to enjoy and look forward to my daily visits to this website.
