Hmmm, I'm guessing your New Year's resolution is to eat less junk food.

Are you thinking about any New Year resolution? What happened with last year's resolution? Did you stick to it?

My wife and I are both in our mid to upper 60s, and over the last year or so have completely neglected ourselves.  We have both decided that this is the year that we are finally going to quit ignoring ourselves, and do what is best for us.

Thank you so.much for starting this thread, and best wishes for a safe and prosperous new year for you and your family.

Last year, I selected twelve “monthly challenges.”  As examples: Go for a walk outside every day; study Spanish every day; do a “push up challenge” using a thirty-day program. It was really fun!  Some months I completed all 30 days of the activity; some months I fell off the wagon midway through. But each month was a chance to start over with a new challenge. I plan to do something similar this year so I’m currently choosing 12 things to work on!

Goals to start the New Year

1. Read 2 books by Jan 31

2. Drink more water and track my water intake and my weight

3. Sell 5 items in my house by January 31

4. Lose 10 lbs by Jan 31

I don't make new year's resolutions. If you want change, do it now- don't wait until the arbitrary date of January 1st.

“Now” is January 1st, so this is a perfect time!

My New Year's resolution is to eat better and get more physical activity. I've found the only exercise I'm consistent with is walking. For the past year or so, I've pretty much been walking everywhere. I even walked outside 100 miles/month and posted autumn pics in September and October for a charity. Walking led to me losing 22 pounds and overall being less stressed, despite stressors related to work and grad school.

I want to keep up with walking. I started a facebook group with some friends, students, fellow nurse, etc. Nothing fancy, just people going on walks outside and taking pictures. People can also post the number of miles they walked if they feel comfortable doing that. I can send the link to join this group if anyone's interested.

I've spent a lot of time studying and preparing for a new role over the past few years and this past fall I was so disgusted with my physical self (not overweight but not my personal ideal weight, poor fitness, etc) that I immediately took significant measures with my intake and exercise and have stuck with it.

I typically don't make NY resolutions because it's easy to have goals that are unrealistic and then failure is also easy. However, I fully intend to keep up with the basic eating and exercise patterns I have established over the past several months, which are nothing more than reasonable lifestyle changes. My #1 goal is to maintain a casual--not rigid--mindset about this so that I avoid the "well I've skipped a day of exercise, now this is a big failure" trap and am always motivated to continue.

I do not really do New Year resolutions but I do have some goals that I want to accomplish. I do want to lose some weight, make a certain amount of money through travel nursing, travel to 1 new country if its safe during the pandemic, and get engaged to my boyfriend this year.

my resolution this year is to prioritize my happiness. I am currently very miserable, but am scared to make the necessary changes I need to. I genuinelly think I need to quit bedside nursing for my sanity, but I am scared as to where that leaves my career. What should I do next? I fear disappointing my employer since I just started a new specialty 2 months ago. But I am getting to the point where my quality of life is so so low. I need to be happier, and I hope that I will be this year ❤️

Make it happen. Life's too short.

I don't prefer to take big risks. But I have changed up my trajectory for the better in the past few years and the only regret I have is that I didn't see things (that were making me feel dissatisfied) for what they were immediately so that I could get started on my plan B sooner. So my advice is if you know it needs to happen then don't let fear stop you.

Here's to a great 2022 for you. ??
