It gets very tiresome having non-nurses come on here and tell the actual nurses how we should behave on a NURSES forum.
It may be a nurses forum.....but it is a public one as well. We have members that are not nurses and are patients, students and families....from all over the world. Allnurses supports debates as long as everyone is respectful.

I remember a flu season years ago...we had a resident go out to the waiting room and told everyone with aches, fever., and a cough to go home and rest. we of course told him he couldn't do that...LOL

That was a very polite way to tell you to take your conspiracy theories somewhere else!

Who me? I don't have any. If you read closely my whole point was that I was poking fun at the conspiracy theories. I have been getting my shot every year for the last 20........................

My son just missed 3 days of school because of the flu. He's finally improved. Should be going back tomorrow.

We thought he had the flu shot last year (got many) - he didn't. He and his brother are scheduled to get thier shots next week.

Yes, and I had a flu shot and sure enough I'm + for the flu. It sucks but I seem to have a milder version. I had several flu patients the last couple weeks and one visitor who stood outside one patient's room and coughed right in my face as I instructed him to put on a mask. I quickly educated him on respiratory hygiene. And I am upset because I would have had 2 days of OT this week too.

YES! The kids and I all got the flu! My 3 yr old son is better, but my 9 yr old daughter still has cough and fever but no more vomiting. And I was up all night vomiting pieces of my stomach, and bloody stomach acid. Feels like my stomach went through a cheese grater. Luckily, I feel better. Sore tummy, but less dehydrated, and better.

OH! And then my husband comes home with a ton of disinfecting products and won't go into the room I am in when I had showered and disinfected already. I did get him to go out and get me some gingerale when I said that I could have used some, but I didn't think he was stopping anywhere after work. I said "I don't expect hugs or sympathy, because I take care of myself, but I don't have ANYTHING to make me feel better." I hate complaining. My husband is a hypochondriac, so he was all "we have the flu", and I was like "You don't! You're fine!" And he was like "I'm nauseous" and "I will probably throw up later." DRIVES ME NUTS!!! I hate when people talk and worry about themselves when nothing is even wrong with them. He does that at least every other day. He comes home from work and says "Guy at work was sick and now I'm all nauseated and think I am getting sick now." Ughh! And he is trippin' like 100% of the time. Insane. Random rant. Thanks for listening. I will now go suffer quietly because I am actually sick, and of course, tend to my sick children as well.

My kids had the flu shot in October, but I guess that didn't make a difference for January.

Your husband does realize that the flu is not a stomach virus with throwing up right? The flu, or influenza, is a respiratory illness. If you are vomiting blood, going to the doctor sounds like the right thing to do also. Hope you all feel better soon!

Influenza B was the strain going around in my section of the country and a few doctors at work said that people who got the flu shot were still getting the flu because it did not cover Influenza B, only Influenza A.

Optimal time to get the flu vaccination is October

i think this is the reason why hospitals are requiring staff to take the flu-vaccines though many disagree with the idea..
