How many of you nurses have told your kids this? LOL.

Oh for God's sake, really? Cora Ann, you are not a nurse yet based on your post history, but for one, you need to lighten up. Second, do you REALLY think we would ignore our children if they were truly injured? Like, all of our nursing assessment skills just disappear, poof! and we can't tell the difference between something that needs a doctor's visit and something that needs no more than a kiss and a bandaid to make it feel better?

Man, why is it there is always someone who has no clue what they are talking about who feels the need to come ruin EVERY vent or humor thread....

Specializes in Critical Care, ED, Cath lab, CTPAC,Trauma.
Also keep in mind your kids will take care of you when your old, if you're in pain/ill do you want them brushing it off and saying "oh mom get over it?" What if you fall when you' re in your 80's-90's do you want them saying "psh you're fine"
This is a light hearted thread. I know as an Emergency room nurse I am inclined to tell them "No blood No bones...you're fine" If I wasn't a nurse I would have spent ALL of my time in the ED...my son like to place small things up his nose when he was little.... Thankfully he finally out grew it.

As nurses we do have a broader knowledge base that allows us a luxury of not having to seek treatment for little things. IF you decide to become a nurse you will understand ((HUGS))

A few years ago my daughter has a kidney stone....she told me she had a pain in her side in the morning...I said...you are going to school you are fine. She cane back into the family room and said "I really don't feel well"...went ashen and passed out! While I knew WHAT to do...it still scared the beejesus out of me.

See, I wish I had your tact Esme. You say what I'm thinking, just a lot nicer than I do.

It's all about the delivery.

Based on some of these posts, namely the one about the broken hip, yes.

Not a nurse but I think nurses because of their extensive training don't over react as many parents would. Nurses are no different than a doctors child, I bet they don't go to the hospital over everything. I bet the mom who's daughter broke her hip felt bad when she found out it was broke. Just like anything else it wasn't funny at time, now she can laugh it off. I don't read to much into everything posted here, this is a place for nurses to vent and use humor only a nurse would get. If you read in between the threads most on here are very caring people and are just simply venting. I bet many on here secretly have their nurse radar on while their child is getting care and would not hesitate to speak up if a mistake was going to be made, that's when it matters the most.

I am enjoying reading through the threads here, helps me get perspective.

Not even in nursing school yet but hoping soon to be.

Im a mother of five grown awesome people and better believe I caught on with "mommy assessment" and knowing I pulled the "oh I'm so sick" to get out if school lol!

Now as a 47 year old grandmother I laugh at myself because I gasp a lot more when the little ones fall lol! But hey that's a grandmas job lol!

My daughter says "mom if they aren't crying blood they are fine lol!"

My baby is 8...I have a lot of friends who have recently had their first children, and I have to say I get a lot more worked up when I see them scrape a knee or bump a noggin than I ever did with my own....I must be out of toddler practice. :) I know that gasp well!

Lol! So true!

Not so much with the doctor; however, I am that way with the emergency room.
