Transferring license after graduating??

Once someone successfully completes a monitoring program can they transfer a license to another state and not have any issues?

Even if the monitoring program is totally confidential -- most states ask about drug or etoh abuse although some qualify within X amount of years. Any criminal record will obviously pop on a background screen. So you may have to disclose in a roundabout way which may land you in THAT state's monitoring program. (Some states being more lenient than others of course.)

Well I was never charged with anything so I have a clean record. I'm in the Oklahoma peer program and will be done in about a year. After that I was wanting to transfer to Texas but I'm worried they'll ask about any drug abuse or if I was in a monitoring program. There's no discipline on my license. I just don't want to have to do the monitoring program over again in another state

Texas Board of Nursing - Endorsement

Looks like it does ask. You could probably lie but that could come back to bite you if the BON finds out.

I have to tell you that one of the ladies in my support group had to apply for a TX license because she worked for an insurance company and she had to get multiple state licenses to be able to call clients country wide. Anyway, TX was a nightmare. They asked the question about being in treatment in the past 5 years and she said yes. Not only did they make her do their monitoring program (she was not being monitored in her home state) but they reported her on the national website nursys. Just for answering yes to that question. So now she has it (a TX license) but with a mark on her TX license and any employer here can see that. She does not have any mark on her home state license. TX also told her if she was wanting to physically practice in TX they wouldn't have allowed it but were being easy in her since she was only talking in the phone with clients. This was all because she voluntarily took herself to rehab for alcohol within the past 5 years, no patient issues or diversion even.

Ok so my question is if the program is considered confidential here in Oklahoma then how would any other agency in another state know? Unless that information was shared to a government agency and that would show up in my background check? This is so frustrating.

Second question: would this cause any problems if I tried to get into a CRNA program in Texas?

It is a confidential program. However, you are going to have to mark "yes" on the drug/alcohol question for the TX license endorsement unless you 1) outright lie or 2) are five years out from completing the monitoring program and haven't had any other issues since, I guess.

If you lie on your application, it can come back to haunt you probably in the form of permanent license revocation if you relapse or the board finds out some way. (Maybe you tell a nursing friend and they report you or something, I don't know.)

If you do not lie on your application, they will want to know the details and you will have to disclose the monitoring program.

I'm working so hard to be done with this program to keep my license from being disciplined, I'm worried to death I would have to do this all over again if I go to another state. This is so damn frustrating

I know exactly what you're going through. I'm sorry. :(

One other thing... the support group friend I was talking about never self reported to our home state either prior to applying for TX, so that might be why Texas was so harsh. She never went through our monitoring program before. I don't know if that's why or not.

She didn't self report because no issues happened at work and she simply took herself to rehab on her own. Maybe you should call Texas Board of Nurses and ask about if they would discipline your license or make you do the monitoring again.

i've come to the conclusion that no matter how you look at it, this is a never ending cycle of punishment. Confidential, my back end! Someway, somehow, you wind up having to disclose this mess if you want to do anything beyond stay tucked in your home state, never to further your education or anything.

Bitter? Yes absolutely.

So you're saying my chances of ever going to crna school are slim? Even in Oklahoma?
