    I am new to this site and was wondering if any of you had info on the OIG exclusion list. I have been in recovery since March 2007 and half way through my 5 year nursing probation. I have been working as an RN since 2008 and just found out that I'm on the OIG exclusion list as of last month, I never received a letter for my right to repeal or fight it. It is a minimum of a 2 year exclusion and I cannot work as an RN until I'm off that list. Just asking for other experiences with this and the time frame off getting your name off the list. I have a lawyer who is working on getting me off the list but he isn't positive he can. Any help or info is appreciated. Thanks.

    I don't have much time right now, so I have to make this brief....you CAN work as a nurse while on the OIG list...however, you can not work at any facility that qualifies for Gov't reimbursment, ie, medicare/medicaide...etc..which pretty much disqualifies all hospitals and long term care facilities..

    I was on the OIG list and I have written at length on how I was able to remove myself from it w/o the use of an attorney or other help (I do not have anything against attornies--I just didn't have any money)

    Thanks for the responses. I am in the process of applying to grad school for my MSN and hope the OIG exclusion doesn't affect my application process. Does anybody know if I'm able to get student federal loans while on the OIG list? Can a student do clinicals at a hospital if they are on the OIG list? All these questions I have are overwhelming! I was on a great path and doing awesome and was back to working as a nurse, now I'm on this list and cannot work. It's awful. I just sent letters to my representatives about this, I don't believe this is fair to have an addict or alcoholic not work due to their disease.

    You can get off this list. Don't let anyone in that office tell you otherwise. My Congressman did what thousands of dollars and multiple attorneys could not...got me directly in touch with senior counsel within the OIG. There is a restoration plan in place to help people get reinstated.

    I know that you CAN get student loans while on this list. The only thing that bars you from loans is a conviction in drug dealing. (whatever the legal terms are.)

    I am not sure about clinicals, however. If your school will allow you to do clinicals while in a program/license probation, I would ask them specifically.

    With the help of my support network and with the help of a good lawyer I have been removed from the OIG list. I just received notificaton today. The best part is that I stayed sober through this whole mess. As a nurse I was the one always helping others but when times became tough, reaching out and asking for help was the best thing that I could do for myself. Everyone kept telling me that "it gets better" and it was so hard to believe when I was in the mess of it all. Today I believe this is true.

    Since you have not included any additional details I am rather at a loss to explain why you would be on the OIG list at all, much less for a minimum of 2 years. Usually nurses with an addiction issue find themselves on the list due to a suspended or revoked license, and the term of the exclusion is the term of the suspension or revocation. Once the suspension or revocation is lifted, the exclusion can be petitioned to be lifted. The exclusion is not designed as some punishment in this instance but rather it is in place to prevent someone billing for work done by someone who has no valid license. Mere probation of a license is not a reason for exclusion. If there is a conviction for fraud, or a drug crime (or other crime the OIG designates as problematic) then things are different and exclusions with minimum set periods are common.

    Hi there. I'm doing a lot of investigation on reinstating my license and getting off the exclusions list. In your post above, you mention that "Mere probation of a license is not a reason for exclusion". Do you know if it is possible to apply for OIG reinstatement after license surrender once you get you license back under a consent order??
