Wow! That's crazy!!

Yes it has been. I knew that I had to go to an evaluation but had no idea that it was going to cost that much or be that far away. It was also a 9 hour evaluation... It was a major inconvenience, but it went very well though.

Wow! 9 hours and $3,000?! The first evaluation I scheduled was $800 but I still felt like that was a little much. I am not going to that evaluation anymore though because a lawyer advised me not to since the psychologist was on the board-approved list. I don't have a chemical dependency problem but I have three alcohol related charges on my record (one Minor in Consumption and two Minor in Possession ALL from 2008!) Thank you for the information!!!

Another question... Did they drug test you? I will 100% pass a urine test but it is the hair test possibility that scares me. I don't take any drugs but I've read that alcohol can be looked at on a hair test.

Thanks!!

Drugs/alcohol problems in the past and sitting for the boards. From my experience, a lot of people with DUI's have had to get an evaluation.

You don't have a chemical dependency, but you have DUI's...

You DO have a chemical dependency and its name is alcohol.

Obviously you had a problem with alcohol at some point and the BON just wants to make sure its not still lurking around.

Cant really blame them, they are not here for us and they are not our friends!

Who are you talking about? I in no way stated that an individual with a DUI does not POSSIBLY have chemical dependency issues and that a chemical dependency evaluation was unnecessary to determine so.

I believe Hunny was responding to Johnson103, who, by the way, used a lot "textspeak" which is against the Terms of Service (and a pet peeve of mine, which is why I am mentioning it).

Hey... I have ZERO DUIs! I have MIC/MIPs from my senior year of high school (homecoming party bus got searched, a bottle of liquor was found, and everyone on the bus received an MIC) and freshman year of college (one time I was on a beach with a beer in my hand and an officer approached me... second time drinking a beer while camping) I am sure everyone on here had a drink before the age of 21. I just got caught doing it :) I have never thought of myself as a chemically dependent person though.

Yes you did strike a nerve because my post was right before yours so I thought you were referring to me, your post made it seem as if someone was in denial about alcohol dependency or complaining about the process of getting licensed with a drug/alcohol history- which is not the case as I well aware of the necessity of an evaluation. Sorry for the mixup...

I get what you all are saying. I think an evaluation is an excellent tool to determine if there is an abuse issue or a dependency issue. One is a slippery slope to the next. Chemical dependency can mean a couple things. An emotional reliance on the chemical and/or a physical reliance. Alcohol is frightening because it is so socially accepted and can take years from a person before this issue gets bad enough that it gets caught. I have a CNA friend who is really struggling with that concept now. She recognizes that alcohol is an issue for her, at the same time she isn't physically dependent. Luckily for her she realized that it could only lead her down a much darker and painful path if she continued, a very intelligent and brave decision for her. I'm not saying that opiate addiction for me wasn't painful, but I do feel fortunate that it took me down fast and hard and that the line is crystal clear for me, and that I don't have to go out to dinner and have the temptation of friends my age ordering it off the menu!
