I live in Fresno, which is just south of Houston. We had a terrifying night when the storm came through. Almost every fence in the neighborhood was brought down, along with some pretty big trees. The greater Houston area is mostly without power, with some areas slowly coming back up. Our power came back yesterday afternoon, but my sister and mother are both still sweating it out. The cell phone transmission is terrible! The lines are all jammed, and no one can get through. The only sure bet is to text someone, but only if you can get a signal to go out.

I was grateful that we only have downed fences to contend with. I was panicking yesterday thinking about all of the food that was going to spoil if our power didn't come back up. I'm one of those people who likes to keep a fully stocked fridge/freezer, and was not looking forward to throwing it all out. My mom is coming by later to store some her food here. Its a nightmare situation for many, and my heart goes out to those people.

good news is that josephine blew herself out in the atlantic and none other are reported on the horizon...plus the weather is changing so we are going to be at the end of the really active season
mf so many are in the same situation, i know how rough it is when you don't know when the power will be back on i hope your family members get some relief soon
cell phone service will be poor for some time d/t the damages to towers and the relocation of a lot of their personnel
i am glad that you came through with most everything intact

I live on the Mississippi Gulf coast and survived Katrina. My heart goes out to the Texas Gulf coast. You'll be in my thoughts.

I have lots of family and friends in the Houston Area and I'm thankful the storm is over, yet the recovery is going to be a long process. I understand that the damage is devastating. My heart and prayers go out to you all. God Speed.

It is amazing how weather goes. My BIL lives in Iowa, LA (that's pronounced Eye-O-Way), about 10 miles east of Lake Charles. Lake Charles got flooded. Ten miles south of him along the coast is destroyed. Iowa came through basically unscathed.

I am thankful for my BIL's good situation, but my heart goes out to everyone else -- it sounds like FEMA's not doing that much better a job this time, and we still don't know how bad it really is b/c of the no fly zone for the media (what's up with that?)

Well, I received some good news today. My baby brother is 32 and he and his wife are about to move back up here - to Monroe - my sil is expecting their 2nd baby before Christmas. My brother is a police officer in Thibadeaux, La. and been working 7 days a week, 12 hour shifts through all off them. They don't live in New Orleans, thank goodness, but he is burnt out from all the storms. Yeah!

Me too!! His wife is an Echo tech, and I'm hoping that she gets a job in the same facility where my dh supervises.

I know db is not a baby, he's 32 yrs old and over 6 feet tall, about 250 lbs or so, but he's still the baby to me, since I'm the oldest of 4 kids and he's the youngest.

Sounds silly, I know!
