as i mentioned before i have to get bi-lateral hearing aid. pretty depressed about that, but getting better to know that there are nurses with hearing aid and they are doing fine as nurses. i have one questions though i did not get my hearing aid yet it is in process, but in the mean time i have interview with director of long term care facility. i hope i hear him fine, but should i tell him i am in process of getting hearing aid or not?

please give me advise on that.

Hi!
I am also waiting for any reply on your thread.Am too is HOH and applied job.After reading some other threads here,it's like, I'll just wait after my physicals and what the hiring people will say about my impairment.
I am also considering to have my own steth, but still searching what is really the best stethoscope for me.
Hope to hear other ideas here.

I encourage you to read up on the ADA laws regarding disclosing information prior to the job. It says you are protected and DO NOT have to disclose this information. I hope all goes well for you. By the way, I wear bilateral BTE aids, am considered profoundly deaf and do fine(and I work in the oR).

Hello everyone!
I was not hired.But was not given a reason.I told the manager about my impairment that I will be using a hearing aid,and that also of a specific stethoscope.I disclosed my impairment so they will know what kind of accommodation I will need in the workplace .Well, I was not aware that the CEO already called her that morning, that accrdg. to her, they(CEO/HR) will not hire me.Anyway, it's not the end of my jobhunting, I'll continue my journey, and hoping to find a place that I will be comfortable with my disability.I am sure,that was not the right place for me.
About the kind of stethoscope,I'll check first with what kind of hearing aid I will be fitted.
I read about this ADA too.I'm not sure if all employers are considerate for some people's shortcomings.It seems, all they think is business.

Hi,

I am also hard of hearing (BTE in left and profoundly deaf in the right) going into a LPN program soon. I find the fact there are other "deaf" nurses very supporting!!!! Especially since I am a single parent on my own.
Question though.. where in British Columbia can I find the proper stethoscope for my needs?
Any other "deaf" LPNs in my area?

guys. me still searching for the stet for us, but had question people who already work. do you guys have trouble hearing on the phone when there is too much noise in the facility you work for what do you do? i find it risky sometimes because when lab calls i tell them i will call them back when place is quite, but that is not good all the time? i wonder what you guys do? with hearing aid you can do other function oki, but what about phone orders? any advise?

Try working for a Veteran Medical clinics or the Veterans Hospitals
There are all kine of people that work there with many types of disabilities
from Mental ,MS to MD Bilaterl AKA; plenty of Nurses and Physician with Diabilties. Disabilities are normal thing to have a the VA Medical Healthcare Systems. No you do not need to tell any employee you are HOH or wear glasses
except if you are in applying to the Arm Forces they own you! There are stethoscope made for the HOH and they are expenses.Try a medical uniform outlet and see if they can get you a discount

most newer phones, especially business ones, have volume adjustment.....if your place of employment doesnt, see if they will purchase a handset for you that has the volume adjustment built in....good luck
