Does dr/pt confidentiality still count if pt is an rn and both work for same hospital

Hi, i was wondering if i were to disclose to my doctor about my recent experimentaion with an illicit drug, would he have to report me to the hospital since we both work for the same institution. I would never even think of going to work if i were not 100%, and i would never risk my pts' safety, just as an fyi. I have not been feeling right since i did this and wanted to go to my doctor, but am afraid that if i do i may be putting my job at risk. As a pt should i not have the same confidentiality rights as other pts, despite my job title?

Yes, Doctor- patient relationship does stand and the doctor can not discuss anything with anyone unless he thinks you are a danger to yourself or someone else. Hippa Laws!! Now as far as your health, go to the doctor and just tell him what is going on. It's always best to be honest with your doc. This way if something is going on he knows what he is dealing with.

If he thinks you're doing drugs, yes he can report you. He has a duty to report just like we do. I'm not sure what the specifications of it are,, and I don't know what your drug use is about either.

If you need help, get help. But just know that if he thinks you're under the influence, he can report you to the state board.

Mag, I'm not on drugs, an your right . I think it was pretty earlyhere when I responded to that question. Lack of sleep still affects me terribly and my

brain still isn't chemically in balance.
