Do Nurses in Recovery get hired for....

Hi am having a very hard time finding a job because of my recovery nurse status. However, so many travel nursing job recruiters have called me and i am just wondering "do travel nursing assignments happen for nurses in recovery?" They seem desperate to talk to me, but once they truly find out my situation, i just don't know if they will want to hire me anymore. Thanks

I looked at this option after my BON contract was completed. I found 1 recruiter who was willing to work with me. I had past travel experience and this helped. The bigger issue is getting licensed in different states, depending on what your BON knows, and your current license status. ( all states ask about past discipline )

I wanted to work as a Travelr because I wanted to move to a different state, but was not sure where and could use this as an idea of what different locales were like.

My state does not offer the option of an alternate program, so my license has disciplinary info on it that is public, and as a result the states I looked into moving to were informed and required a BON hearing, and FL told me that I would be monitored.

Thank you for your reply. I am in the HPSP program for 3 years in Minnesota. I have many random drug screens and attend NA meeting twice a week. I am over half way done, i am off narcotic restriction now. ( i diverted narcs.) So you said "after your BON contract was completed" was that contract a similar program to mine. And then you stated your state does not offer the option of an alternate program. So i was just confused as to if you had to go thru what i did or not, let me know and thanks again for all your excellent info.

The answer is going to be no,, you'll need to wait until you've completed your program. There are several different reasons why. One, you have to stay in your state to be in the recovery program,,, two.. you have to take the drug tests.. three,,, no travel company will hire you with these kind of restrictions. I'm positive.

I'm sorry, but it's true.

Just keep trying.. There are so many posts in this forum on how to work on getting a job with restrictions. Search for "finding a job in recovery program" .. and you will get such good advice. I have some advice but am wayy too tired to get into it right now. I may post it tomorrow if you can't find it here..

One good piece of advice is to never give up. Try, try and keep trying. Get out there and meet the managers that will hire you, face to face before you tell them your situation. Never tell them over the phone. ANd never tell the recruiter. You'll never get past them. Be up front, but be confident and tell them how you'll be the best nurse they have and why you'll be the best... Because you MUST be.

Good luck

Oh No, I went through all of this and now no one is going to hire me? That stinks. Especially if your following your program. Drug free. Is it the paper work they don't want to mess with filling out? Or a trust issue?

Thank you very much for the valuable info. I was just laid off (i went into cosmetic nursing for past 2 years) and i had known it was going to be a long, hard, road of finding a new job. I will definately search for those keywords on the internet. I really, really, want to be aggressive in finding a new job, i just needed to know if i was kind of wasting my time with all the nursing recruiters calling me. Thanks again.

Gosh, I feel so lucky and thank God every day for my job. Don't have time to tell my story right now but I'm in the last year of a five year bit on probation for diversion.

Luckily, I have a lot of friends where I live that know me as a good nurse and my situation didn't have much of an effect on me getting a job. I was out of work a total of only one week and got hired as the ADON of a LTC facility and I've been working there during my whole probation.

I feel so blessed they totally trust me. I know it's tough out there.

Many rn's work in dialysis, no narcs, or LTC. Some in our group work for community health, which in MI, with the gov't programs are actually hiring. So many out of work, and no health insurance, community health clinics are on the rise. Good luck and be persistent. Don't let others determine your self worth.
