Nurse referrals for CT head scans

Hi- I work as a memory assessment nurse and I am looking at improving the service by being able to refer directly for CT scan without the wait for the consultant doing this. Does anyone know if there are any protocols out there for nurse referral?

I would call a few CT centers to get their impression. Is a diagnostic test such as this within your scope of practice? Will insurance pay if other than MD orders it (many have expensive tests pre-authorized). Do you have any evidence to support the use of CT in this area (may need to prove your point). Good luck.
