What to do while waiting for nclex eligibility in New York

World Registration

Published

Hi everyone! I have submitted my nclex nurse form 1 and cgfns cvs stuff. I know that it's going to be a waiting game from here on. I've been reading and working part time. But, I'm getting sad and impatient day by day. I want to get my New york license and work as a Registered Nurse asap. I'm alone here in NY. And I'm not happy with my part time job. I'm financially and emotionally supporting myself. It's been tough.

(Sorry for the drama...)

anyway, do you have any suggestions as to what better jobs are available in NY? And what to do while waiting for my nclex eligibility?

Thank you.

ps: I'm a Permanent Resident (via family-based petition, parents are in California. Not close with them).

Hi, and welcome :)

Really the only jobs in healthcare you can have without having a nursing license would be as a patient care aide, or receptionist in a medical office. Or, of course, working as a Medical Assistant in an office setting.

Some facilities require healthcare aides to have certification (CNAs) and some don't; nursing homes will require the CNA while many hospitals will not.

How long do you anticipate it will take for you to be able to take NCLEX? If it's a matter of weeks, there's really no point in looking at changing jobs, is there?

Hi.*

I'm a non-US graduate/RN. So I'm having the CGFNS Credential verification service (will approx take 4-6 months or more). Huhuhu...

anyway, thank you!

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

You could look for any work that doesn't require a RN license however be aware from reading the NY state forum many nurses are struggling to find work so may be harder if you have little US experience

Specializes in Medical-Surgical Nursing.

review for the nclex mine took 7 months before my eligibility arrived .... my school is in the Philippines

i think you should also take this time to shadow nurses in hospital for exposure to US clinical settings and probably take an healthcare aide job, both will add to your CV and show your potential employers that you have some US clinical exposure by the time you are done with nclex
