Visa Screen Certificate / CGFNS

World Registration

Published

Visa Screen Certificate is required by all foreign nurses wishing to obtain a green card to work in the US, as well as any type of temporary work permit, such as the Nafta TN Visa for those from Canada and Mexico.

It requires that you pass either the NCLEX-RN or the CGFNS exam, as well as the series of English exams if you are not exempt from them.

The CGFNS exam is only required now in about five states, and rumor is that one or two will be removed from that remaining list as well. Do not bother with that exam if you are not going to work in a state that does not require it, or you have no way to be able to take the NCLEX exam from where you are currently located.

The application for the VSC is now only good for one year.........please do not apply for it until you have passed at least one of the required exams, or you may need to pay an additional fee.

NCLEX in general doesn't expire however Ca will not issue a license without a SSN (in fact we are seeing more states do this) and will destroy your file after 3 years if you do not provide a SSN or apply for a extension. This is where the problem arises because your NCLEX is destroyed that means any record of you taking the exam and passing it is destroyed. There is no central place it is recorded

Thank you silver dragon!!!:wink2:

.. can you give me a list here,, WHERE is the best state that is something good to work, and that gives license without requiring SSN where i could transfer my file?.. i really dont know where state should i choose, coz my relatives are from california only. i hope i'll pick the smart option.

do you think it is a good idea if i apply for a visa screening certificate now? knowing that there is still retrogression. because i dont have any idea that after having VSC i dont know what needs to be done next. after having VSC what's next? how long will it take for me to have the chance to go abroad??

actually i had this employer from new jersey, she gets all my credentials(xerox copY) and i ask her if should i take the IELTS now so she can work on my papers now, she just told me my papers is on process now,and i have a lawyer already according to her.. but whats up with that? how is she gonna work through my papers though i haven't taken the IELTS yet which is a requirement for the VSC?? what do you think of that she told me

"your papers are on process now"....

I can't really suggest a state to go to. If you get a license in another state it doesn't always require that you have to work in that state. Once in the US with a valid work/immigrant visa and you have a SSN you can apply to Ca for a license. This is just a way of protecting your NCLEX results.

Your employer doesn't need IELTS to submit paperwork for you although they can demand that you have English and some states do require English exams. VSC is valid for 5 years only and no telling how long it will take for you. You can always apply for vsc once it is getting nearer your PD once you have paperwork filed (I140)

i have the exact same problem, it's so confusing and discouraging.. =(

thank you silverdragon!

how much is the reapplication of the VSC once it gets expired? sorry, i know it sounds redundant here.

yeah really , it's so discouraging, we still have to stay here longer than we think:cry:.. i really hope that the retrogression will be uplifted soon soon soon:(

is it true that obama is prioritizing black people to get a job first rather than giving it to aliens?

Costs are on the CGFNS website.

It isn't true that President Obama is prioritizing any race before foreigners BUT as it is right he is trying to get US or legal residents employed first before foreign workers. No one knows how long retrogression will last it already has been ongoing since Oct 06 and the demand is higher than visas allocated and the US like several other countries are having a high unemployment rate and they do need to be looked after first

That is something you discuss with your employer, it may be that you pay upfront, keep receipts and you receive a relocation fee that covers things like this

Hi folks. Do I need to sign my entire name in the application? I have signed my name but without my middle name. I only signed it with my middle initial. Do you think its ok?

Hi Suzanne!

I registered in the CGFNS website for my VSC but I was not able to finish it. I realized that I don't have to rush since there is retrogression. I'll be renewing my tourist visa soon for the US, I was wondering if this registration I made online will affect the outcome of my renewal?

Thank you.

Hi everyone!

I just want to ask some assistance in filing the information for CGFNS Visa Screen Application.

1. What is Citizenship ID Number? I'm here in the Philippines and I am not sure if this ID is the same as the numbers (Registration Number) written in my Birth Certificate..

2. What will I write in the "Name of Diploma or Certificate in its Original Language" for Secondary Education? Is it something like "Certificate of Graduation"?

3.In 16 c. there was this part: If you passed either SBTPE or NCLEX-RN, Please list date and location where you passed the examination:

Month__ Day__ Year__ (Is this my testing date? or the one written in my passed letter?)

State/Province:__ (I took the NCLEX-RN (California) exam here in the Philippines. Should I write there Manila? Or Is it referring to the State I applied my NCLEX-RN exam? )

Country:__ (is this US?)

Did passing of this exam lead to license being issued in the same state/province? (Should I tick the "No" box coz Ca BON couldnt give me my license bec I dont have my SSN yet?)

4. What about the Signature of the Applicant? Should I sign my whole name in cursive? I read some thread here that this is different from our regular signature, right?

5. And lastly (I'm sorry if I asked a lot), about the fees for CGFNS Visa Screen Certification.. I visited their site.. Am I going to pay for this: "Certification Program: initial applicant: CGFNS Qualifying ExamSM, credentials review, English language proficiency " which is $418?

Thank you very much! ;)This forum helps alot! God bless you all!
