Visa Screen Certificate / CGFNS

World Registration

Published

Visa Screen Certificate is required by all foreign nurses wishing to obtain a green card to work in the US, as well as any type of temporary work permit, such as the Nafta TN Visa for those from Canada and Mexico.

It requires that you pass either the NCLEX-RN or the CGFNS exam, as well as the series of English exams if you are not exempt from them.

The CGFNS exam is only required now in about five states, and rumor is that one or two will be removed from that remaining list as well. Do not bother with that exam if you are not going to work in a state that does not require it, or you have no way to be able to take the NCLEX exam from where you are currently located.

The application for the VSC is now only good for one year.........please do not apply for it until you have passed at least one of the required exams, or you may need to pay an additional fee.

(This thread is replacing the original thread that was from more than 2 and 1/2 years ago, and has updated information.)

i got an email from CGFNS, and they said that they havent receive any proof from BON NM that i passed, to think that it's over 60 days (45-60 days processing time) and they already charged my credit card 2 days after i faxed the form to them... however, I sent an email as well to NM, unfortunately they don't reply and when you call them, a voicemail always answer my call. tough luck!

On the other hand, my friend sent her license verification form to BON CA for her VSC, and she got her status "passed", to think that i applied 2 weeks earlier....

Oh well, i don't know what to do now. maybe, wait... wait... and wait... :o:angryfire:madface::uhoh3:

Contact them again, that is all that you can do.

The wait time is just a couple of months, not six months. But what type of working visa? The only thing that is available to you is the H1-C, and that is not a good idea in any case for anyone. If you do not like the facility, or they do not like you, it is very difficult to get placement at another facility that can do the H1-C; there are only 15 out of the entire US.

Not sure why your employer did not give you this information about the VSC being required before any visa would be issued to you in the first place. At this point, it will be more to do with if the employer still has a spot for you, that may no longer be in existance because of the time that has passed. I would check with them, and a new contract is going to be required to be submitted to the US Embassy before they will grant a visa.

Hi, My VSC was certified and mailed maybe I will recieve it in two weeks time.

Written on my papers, my visa symbol is E(followed by an X? like EX) something like that..:uhoh21: I was actually informed by my employer about the VSC required before visa would be issued. I tried taking the english test and it was only this May that I passed. My employer is still waiting for me. Now, Im worried, am I affected with the retrogression? That it took me 1year and 6 months to submit my VSC. And will I go for repeat medical examination? And I have to ask my employer for a new contract to submit at he US Embassy?:o Ohh please, lessen all these worries... thank you

OK here i'm again,Ijust got an email from WES (world education services)they do your credit evaluation also.My nursing school mailed them everything, transcripts for all four years,diploma...and they just wrote me that my nursing college degree from the czech republic is only equivelent to high school diploma here in the US.They are only mailing me document by document evaluation instead of the credit evaluation that I requested. Now I wonder what to do,is it even worth it to go with CGFNS.Another girl from the czech republic that i spoke with told me the same thing about CGFNS,after mailing all her documents in they said that her education just wasn't enough.Common 4!!! years of nursing school.Pleease hlp is there any czech nurses working in the US!!!!I'm not worried about the visa part becouse i'm a greencard holder.I need ANY suggestions!!!!Thank you all

What type of visa are you actually trying to get? We do not have working visas, only the green card; except for 15 facilities in the US that can petition under the H1-C visa.

Normally, you have only one year to submit the VSC to complete the requirements, or your visa number that was allotted was used for someone else. Suspect that you were trying to go for the green card, as the H1-C petition requires that you already have the VSC in hand before your petition can even be submitted.

Suggest that you follow up with the US Embassy where you were submitted thru. They can give you the correct answer, but at this point, with the retrogression in place and the fact that you took over the year to get the VSC, more than likely you are going to be waiting.

And the medical exam is only good for one year, and you most definitely will need a new contract; but do not do anything with that until you talk with the officials at the US Embassy.

One significant item is it will depend on when you completed your nursing training, was it done after you graduated from a high school program, or was the HS included with it? If that is the case, that is going to cause problems for you.

I recommended CGFNS for their credentials eval, never recommend any of the others. Plus if you decide to go for further studies later on, the CES is going to be required, the schools do not accept the other evaluations.

I would go thru the evaluation by CGFNS, they give the final information that is accepted by all fifty states. They look at each application on a case by case issue, we can only recommend that you go thru them and then go on from there.

You also have to remember that CGFNS is under contract to the US federal government for the services that they provide, so they are going to be the most upfront with you on everything. You do have a green card, but immigration and licensure are two very different things, and you still are required to go thru the licensing process as being a foreign-trained RN.

Best of luck to you.

Another is I am confuse, My sister have answered the 9089 form while I did not. After making payment for the fee bill, they sent me the DS-230. after a month or two, I had my medical exam then I was interviewed and it was only the VSC that I dont have..:uhoh3: So, my application for immigrant visa is for the green card?

Hi,

On my Visascreen Status it says, LICENSE VALIDATION FORM - RECEIVED BUT NOT REVIEWED , PASSED CP OR NCLEX - WAITING FOR PASSING TEST RESULTS, what does this mean, do I have to pay the extra $10. to California for the extra Form for the Test Results or it is already inclusive on the Validation form theyve sent?

What did you give them in the 1st place ? Was it the License Validation Form from the VSC Handbook and did you pay the $60 fee for it to CA BRN? If that's the case, you don't have to worry. They just acknowledged that they received it and currently reviewing it.

After they reviewed it, they will change it to passed NCLEX and Waived License Requirement.

Don't mind the intricitites on how they word it.

Expect them to make a conclusion w/in 2-3 weeks.

I gave them the Validation Form..Thank You!

hello,

I'm a RN and I'm struggling with my exams...

guys I need your HELP! I've came here in USA, VA two years ago and since then I'm trying to pass the CGFNS exam. As you probably know both CGFNS and NCLEX exams are required here in VA. For a year long I've tried to pass the CGFNS...and I've worked hard for that with no good results. My last score is 390 from 400...:( and I've already reapplied for the next exam...which is in march 2008.

The problem is that I think I choose the hardest way and I was wondering if I apply for a state like CA, for example, just to pass the NCLEX and to get my licence to practice nursing, than can I transfer my licence here in VA and skip the CGFNS exam?

I've passed the CGFNS credentials review and I saw that the requirements for CES are the same with the requirements for Certification Program, so with a little luck they will not ask for more papers from my country nursing school...

I need your good advice, what should I do? which state is better to apply to and can I do this, apply in another state and than return here in VA? which are the steps for that...

I hope my English is good enough to make my self understood...:)

thank you for your time!

This question might be out of place...but here it goes.

Does anybody know if Immigration officers at the US Embassy access ur file for the Visa Screen. (where they can see all the documents you submitted etc) Or do they just need to see that you actually have a Visa Screen Certificate?

Any help...thanks

you have to have the certificate in your hand if going the CP route but I believe a copy is sent with AOS application but may be the original is sent.
