States that DO NOT require SSN.

World Registration

Updated:   Published

This is just an FYI for non-American travelers who do not have a social security number. I was searching for a list of states that don't require an SSN to get a job because, as a Canadian, you have to take an assignment in one of these states to get an SSN while you're there so you can travel to a state that does require an SSN after. So here it is!

AZ

AK

CO

CT

FL

IL

ME

MN

OR

TX

VA

WA

WI

NC

Hopes this helps!

I'm not sure what you are asking. If you don't already have a license in any State, you cannot endorse to another State until you have a permit. You will have to apply for an initial license with your NCLEX passed. Also, please read up on New Mexico BON; they recently introduced a policy. When you apply for an initial NM license, you must show that you will remain in the State and not solely apply for licensure to endorse elsewhere immediately after.

New Mexico doesn't require an SSN for application as yet. You should look at the State you wish to work in rather than finding a cheaper/faster approach, as it will take you longer, cost more and cause you grief by jumping State BONs. Also, the service at NM BON was not exactly friendly when I used them. I think they may be very snowed under with applications. Good luck anyway.

Thank you so much for this great insight. I am a foreign grad nurse currently staying in the Philippines. I took my NCLEX 2011 and luckily nailed it...The main reason why I want to endorse my license of examination from Ca to NM is that I don't have SSN. If I do not provide CA BON with my SSN, my file will be destroyed, so that I will endorse it to a different state instead.

IPls, please do help me with this. Thank you.

Because you used CA for the initial application and have no license, you can not endorse it. You must apply for an initial application and arrange with C to forward your NCLEX results (usually for a small fee). Regardless, you will still have to go through CGFNS or another approved assessment center and have a report issued, usually a 4-month process. So look at the time frame as being 4-6 months regardless of the state you apply to.

So correct me if I'm wrong. That is not called an endorsement. It's just transferring your file and NCLEX results to a different state who does require SSN so they can provide you a temporary license. Now I got your point, silver dragon. Thank you, thank you. I need to figure out what else I could do to transfer my file to NM or TX. But which is better though

Is it NM or TX? :shy::shy::shy:

Thanks.

No, you are not transferring your file, only your NCLEX results. You still have to start a new application and meet the requirements. Only you can decide which state.

Here's something to consider if you plan to try NM; they recently implemented a new form to ensure that new applicants plan to stay within their state for a few years. Also note that other PH posters have passed the NCLEX-RN, like in CA; they can't be issued the license without providing a valid SSN.

Here's the NM information link: https://allnurses.com/nurse-registration/new-pinoy-RN-791505.html

Again, you need to verify with the CA BON. Do you have a valid CA license to be endorsed without having an SSN? E-mail them your case. Let us know what you find out, as they will provide the best answer, as it could be on a case-by-case basis; I never know.

Time is of the essence, as if the CA BON does something negative with your soon-to-be-expired license, it may delay your plans. Good luck.

Oh, okay. Thank you so much, Silverdragon. Hope I can transfer my NCLEX results before time runs out. I thought Im done after taking the NCLEX exam and having such a hard time. Worst case scenario if they are not going to consider my result then have to start from scratch. Grrrrrrrr.

Thanks though.

Thanks, Steppybay, for this; I will have to read it then. You guys are so awesome.

Wish me luck, then. I will let you know once I have everything processed.

Mwah.

Hi, I passed NCLEX RN in 2007; I want to know if CA BRN still saves my result so I can endorse to New Mexico for initial registration after getting IELTS; I have VSC; can I use that for credential evaluation?

If you received a CA license after passing the NCLEX, no problem. If you didn't, there would probably be some hoops to jump through, and it won't be with the CA BON.

Did you have a license issued? If yes should be able to endorse if not then you have no license to endorse and have to go through an initial application and arrange for NCLEX results to be forwarded.

I only passed NCLEX RN. I am a bit confused. I don't know where to apply for licensure by examination, which state(s) will give a license and the requirements. Is New York requires a CGFNS certificate (EXAM) aside from child abuse, infection, blah, blah, blah? Same in WA, CGFNS certify, hiv something.

To make it more transparent, I have NCLEX-RN under ca, and I want a hard license; I don't have ssn (which state gives a waiver, Texas? I've got IELTS only; I don't want to take toefl ( for WA), it's OK to take online courses like child abuse, HIV education, etc., but no CGFNS certification, and I don't want to take the exam for that. Though I am willing for credential evaluation via CGFNS, and Texas wishes to fingerprint the US, can it be done outside by local authorities?

I checked all BRN, but still confused. LOL.
