Good day,

Please tell how much time you had from the date when you applied for SEC until the date they scheduled you for it? Do you choose the day by yourself or they send you it?

CRNBC received my application August 2011. Then come September they asked for some outstanding documents to be passed. By November they told me that they had referred me to IENBC for the SEC. February 2012, IENBC emailed me that they are operating at capacity and will only be able to accommodate/ schedule after they were able to schedule previous applicants. March 2012, they emailed me again that they will book me between September to October. Just this May 2012, they emailed me that I am booked for October 2012.

Hope this helps!:)

Hello : )

I'm new to the site and I saw your post about having your SEC in October. I've just had my letters from the CRNBC and I've asked to have mine booked for Feb 2013. May I please ask you which exams you have to sit for your SEC? I have to do General and Pediatric, I was wondering if you knew of the best text books I could use to help me get prepared : )

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thankyou

:)

Hi Tinakaur66!

I was asked to take the general nursing area. Honestly, I can't tell which books are the best. The books I have for now that serve as my reference are the Canadian fundamentals of nursing, medical surgical nursing, and the CRNE prep guide. I've read from other posts that Mosby's CRNE prep guide is helpful as well.

Which country are you from?:)

Hi Anne :)

Thankyou for replying back!. I'm a bit nervous about having to sit the Pediatric one, as Im not trained at all in paeds...so its gonna be a bit hit and miss lol. I don't have the fundamentals one but I do have a Canadian Medical Surgical one that I got and a CRNE prep guide also. I've heard the Mosby ones are good too. Are you nervous about the SEC? Its in October right? Mine is going to be in Feb 2013 so Im going to start studying now if I can. The books are huge though, Is there anywhere on the web where I can see what area's are best to revise? I can't learn the whole book surely? I just want to be able to do as well as possible...

I am from the UK..how about you?? Are you moving out to BC? :)

Hi Tina!

I'm sorry for replying so late. I am very nervous and anxious. Yes, I'll take mine this October. I'm also trying to find websites that could help us, unfortunately there is not much. What I could recommend is the CRNBC website wherein they post the BC nursing standards and what nots. I am actually in BC right now and fairly close to the test site. Hope everything turns out well for the both of us :)

Hi everyone,

Im paediatric RN in London (UK), In July 2012 I sent CRNBC all my paper work for assessment and only yesterday I have received an e-mail saying that I need to book SEC assessment for General nursing, maternal/ newborn and mental health. I have heard that some IEN have been referred fro re-entry programme. I hope this doesnt happen to me. How can I prepare for SEC, are there any textbooks.

Hello Anne! :)

Sorry for the delay in replying also. How are things? Have you taken your SEC yet?? How has it gone? I have gotten myself a med-surgical book...and also something called Fundamentals of Canadian Nursing, so I will start to try and study things, I have had to move my exam date to April or May time as someone close to me has been diagnosed with a terminal illness so I won't be able to move out at the time I wanted to initially.... I really really hope you do well in your SEC, its really nice to hear about other UK nurses doing well in Canada, as it gives hope to the rest of us. xx
