Yes, you may have hit on one of the possible theories. When you read of the CA 2011 RN nursing survey of CA new grads unable to find a nursing job in the first year as it's already almost a 50% unemployment rate. Below is the CA BON link to their studies:

    http://www.rn.ca.gov/pdfs/forms/forecasts2011.pdf

My US nursing friends are saying their friends are now receiving the new request surveys from the CA BON, as they are listed with the BON when they apply for the NCLEX. So we may see if the job market has gotten better or worse, by Nov-Dec. of this year.

But I also think one possible theory is that when the CA BON started to find out more that previous years PH nurses had submitted false documents, somewhere PH never went to a PH school, but passed on the fraud, it opened up another thing as they started to do their investigations and somewhere along the way, they found the differences between the clinical and theory part.

Guys, you have to know that this greedy act of some PH wanna-be USRN's to take this shortcut hurt us students and nurses who are the innocent ones.

So yes, it's good that the CA BON is catching them and probably took away their licenses and opens up an opportunity for us foreign nurses, but at the same time, does that mean, many hospitals are going to shy away from hiring a foreign nurse for fear of losing that employee and it cost money to each hospital to have to replace a nurse. For fear of "opps, another possible fraudulent nurse".

I believe both are factors based on the timeline of events. It's almost impossible that they occurred and hold zero influence on CA BON being more rigorous and technical with their rules. And yes I'm so mad at those people who were stupid enough to submit false documents. Having these people caught and removed is perhaps the silver lining through this adversity that we're forced to deal with though. Imagining one of my family members being put in the hands of someone who isn't a real nurse horrifies me. But yeah it sucks that it affected greatly the foreign nurses who are honest and legit. In terms of the views of hospitals, I think it would depend on their experiences with their previous and current foreign nurses. To be specific, it is subjective to the hospitals' administrators. Some foreign nurses I know have a good employer-employee relationship with their hospitals being under them for many years.. so them knowing about these fraudulent cases wouldn't change their general opinion in a snap. At the same time, this could not be true for other hospitals. Undeniably though, with or without them being aware of the caught fakes, discrimination is still a prevalent issue foreign nurses will always have to deal with (almost every month, there's a case mentioned on TFC news).. not all the time and of varying severity, but there will be those occasional encounters as long as there are judgmental people... and it's not just in the hospital setting, even here on the internet it's still present. But I still have faith in humanity.

Exactly! I think discrimination will always be present as long as there's diversity here. Did anyone here heard of any news regarding the using of false documents to be an RN? Just wondering because I never watched or heard anything from the media. I just want to be informed regarding that issue.

It's found on the CA BON website under their monthly meeting minutes somewhere, so it's all public information that's accessible on-line. It seems to be an on-going investigation and you might have to quickly look thru many many pages.

Have you clicked on the ones that was posted on the first page to start or you may have to cut and paste the links? It will direct you more into the web area that mentions their findings.

What is really upsetting is the government of the Philippines has yet to take action or making this an important deal. For heaven sakes the nursing reputation of the Philippines here is on the line
