hi, im a new member here.. im a registered nurse from the Philippines.. I've been living in Wisconsin for almost 2 years now. I don't wanna apply to Wisconsin Board of nursing because I have to take the CGNS exam and Toefl first before I can apply to them. So I thought of applying at California BON because I have a friend who is a nurse there and he said he didn't need cgfns and toefl when he applied for nclex before, but that was 2007. Good thing I found this site before I proceed to my plans. I read from here that a lot of Filipino nurses got denied of the eligibility. So I checked on the requirements of the other states. I called Florida board of Nursing, and they told me that I don't need Credential Evaluation from CGFNS nor the TOEFL if my transcript of record is written in English.

I hope someone can tell me if applying to Florida board of nursing is the best thing to do for me. Is there any chances too that I will be denied of eligibility too if applied to Florida? Because our finances are too tight now, I don't want to pay the registration fee then get denied. I can't afford my money to go to waste. thank you.

If WI is the first and most desired state you want to work and practice in, then getting any other out-of-state RN license (be it CA, NV or any of the 48 states), endorsing that out of state license means you will still NEED to comply with the same exact minimum requirements that you're so trying to avoid to do. Then, it also means having to pay for doing them PLUS pay the extra application fees back into WI (or any other state you wish to endorse into).

This is why if you read some of my postings, it makes absolutely no sense to go "state hopping" around. By the time, one comes back to full circle, you will not only have wasted the money, but add into almost another year for the testings and exams and waiting for the state BON's to give you their results.

It's to your best interest to simply comply with your most desired state's requirements, so many kababayans are under the impression to get a license from the fastest, easiest and cheapest state, then endorse (transfer) that license into very first state choice, only to find it doesn't work that way.

Each state has its own requirements for endorsement processing and one of the common factor is the review of your school's transcripts. If you produce documents from an international school, it must meet the English requirements as set forth in their application forms. It will not matter if you're an American citizen or dual-citizen, it will ALWAYS go back to where you got the BSN degree from.

As of this point, FL is not a known state enforcing the concurrency rules, but then again, as I stated above, do you plan to stay and work in FL once you pass the NCLEX-RN? Or go back to WI (with a FL RN license) and start from square one and do all the required exams and evaluations that the WI BON's needs? I think you get my point.

Thank you for replying to my post. I got your point. Actually, eventually we have plans to move to another state because my husband is been living in Wi all his life and is sick of the Winter here. But at this time, we don't know yet of where are we moving, but I have to say I don't see it happening soon.

As for your advice, of complying to Wisconsin requirements, yup I thought about that too, but its actually the pressure of passing the CGFNS first before I could apply for NCLEX is the one I am worried about (I took CGFNS 6 or 7 years ago and I failed it).

I checked on the requirements of Wisconsin for their Licensure by Endorsement Requirements, they are:

1. Fee(s) attached to this completed 5 page application (DSPS Form #772).

2. Statement of Graduation or Completion from Nursing School (DSPS Form #259). (U.S. graduates only. Please do not provide transcripts as transcripts do not contain the information we require.) If you are applying for RN licensure by examination through completion of the Pre-MSN basic nursing requirements program, there is no guarantee that you will be eligible for a RN license in other states. 3. Verification of licensure (include active and inactive licenses). See below.*

4. Conviction and Pending Charges (DSPS Form #2252) (if applicable).

5. Copies of malpractice suit(s) (if applicable). Submit copy of court documents of criminal complaint and judgment of conviction.

6. Statement of Foreign Nursing Education (DSPS Form #1006). (Foreign graduates only.)

7. CGFNS certificate if applicable. (Foreign graduates only.) (See DSPS Form #675.)

What do you think about the CGFNS certificate if applicable? I am confused of the "if applicable". What do you think?

The "if applicable" probably does NOT apply to those coming from more known "English speaking and taught" countries such as the UK, Canada etc, but coming from the Phils where the primary language is not English, then I'm pretty sure getting a CGFNS certificate is going to be needed.

Your best answer would be to e-mail the WI BON. If it's deemed it's required, then why go thru the process of going out of state then having to meet the CGFNS anyways?

Until you know for sure of what state you will be moving to and time is not of the essence, then you might as well get the certificate since it will be already done should the next state you're going to is going to require it anyways. If not and you don't get the certificate maybe that next state doesn't require it.

These things take months so if you don't plan to move for another year or so, I say go for it and maybe this will help spread out the financial cost rather than letting it be done at the same time. Good luck!

hello!

last 2011, I was denied by cali brn to take the nclex. I then applied in a different state, got my license and now I'm working in a medsurg floor, soon I'll be on my first year of being a medsurg RN. Just curious, will Cali BRN still require me to take medsurg classes like before in 2011 even if I already have experience as a medsurg RN? I remember they want me to take classes and clinicals for medsurg and pedia. Thank you!

You will still need to meet the requirements of the CA BON. If you didn't meet them before you will not meet them now if you didn't go back to school.Work experience won't change this.

Philippine graduates will be avoiding California. And as demand for foreign nurses has become history, Philippine nursing migration will also cease into the USA.
