paying for a course syllabus for NNAS

Hello,

I am a German RN and I am in the process of getting my licence in BC, Canada. Is there anyone out there that also struggles to pay a lot of money for a course syllabus? I wonder what other people do? Do you just pay $5000? My course syllabus is over 80 pages and I actually have a shorter version form my school, but NNAS did not accept those papers and wanted a longer and more detailed version. Any ideas of what to do? I don't trust NNAS in general and I am not willing to pay a lot of money to then get anyways just poor advisory report from them. If I read comments here on the blog it sounds like most reports aren't very good. I am happy for all comments or experiences out there…

NNAS is new to a lot of people and here on allnurses we have not had many people post their experiences with the process.

Who is charging you $5,000 for the syllabus? your nursing school? it seems like a lot of money for a syllabus, does the $5,000 include translation and mailing costs?

The money would be for the certified translation. Depending on where I would get it translated it might be a bit more or less. The syllabus itself is free it's only the translation that is so expensive. Any thoughts on what to to?

I would recommend you only pay for the translation cost if you can afford to pay for each step following the NNAS assessment. If the advisory report shows your education is not equivalent to a 4 year Canadian BScN, are you financially prepared to do the SEC assessment, upgrade your education and pay for your cost of living expenses?

Thanks. That makes sense. I guess I was just not expecting a terrible advisory report. Is there anyone out who got a poor report and applied now with the body for nurses in a province? I wonder what they want you to do...

Hope for the best but prepare for the worst, there have been other internationally educated nurses (IENs) who posted that their advisory reports showed their education was not comparable to a Canadian BScN, search for a thread titled 'NNAS experience' Jan 1, 2015.

@olisophi, how long was your nursing program? If/when you have your syllabus translated, will you be re-applying to NNAS for RN only or both RN and LPN assessments?

My program was for 3 years (I got 2100 hours in theory). I would apply for both, if I spend so much money on the translation I should probably try for RN and LPN.

There have been other German nurses posting that they applied for Canadian licensure in the past (before NNAS), however they did not update their posts so we don't know if their education was considered comparable or not.
