Passed CA NCLEX 2008, just got SSN this 2012, applied for CA-RN license

Hi to all! I passed the nclex last 2008. I just got my SSN last month as an employer based immigrant. Just a week ago, I submitted my Completed Application for Licensure by Examination including a U.S. social security number as instructed by the CA BON. My school also forwarded the needed documents.

My questions are:

Has someone gone through the same thing as I am?

What happened?

Did they release your license or not?

If yes: How long did you wait for your license?

If not: What did they say? Can you send me a copy? Did they make you do further studies?

--As i have said, I am on employment based petition, so with this, my employer is waiting for my license. With this, my life is on hold. I hope to be enlightened with this. Thank you so much.

thanks steppybay and misshanibee. I just want to ask mishanibee, what are the requirements you have sent to bon, did you send also clinical cases, major and minor, etc? again, thank you and congrats. you are so lucky!

Thanks Irah0526!

Here's d link to all d reqts i sent..Board of Registered Nursing - Licensure by Examination

Including my letter of passing d nclex for cali and a copy of my SSN, thats all i sent. They didnt ask for my cases because i applied for licensure by examination, not by endorsement.

I see, good thing they didn't ask you clinical cases, I have read some of the post, the CA bon asked them to submit it. How long have you applied? what school did you graduate from the Phils? batch? thank you for your patience.

They didnt ask for my cases because i already passed the nclex for cali in 2007 so i was applying by examination. If u passed nclex for a different state they will ask u to submit cases and probably ask u to take extra classes for ob, medsurg and psych i believe, since u r applying by endorsement.

As long as you submit everything i think its just gonna be a few weeks maybe 4-6, depending on how long ur school submits ur transcripts though. If u still havent heard from them after 6 weeks u could call them and ask ur deficiencies if u have any. I graduated 2006 in Baguio. U?

sharing my experience...

I passed the Ca NCLEX last March 2009. It expired last March 2012 because I do not have my SSN. I was admitted here in the US via spouse visa last April 2013. I got my SSN last May. I inquired about the requirements for my RN license. I was asked to submit a new application for licensure/examination, transcript from school and my SSN. They also asked for my school diploma and photocopy of my SSN. I complied with those requirements. Today, I saw my name in Board of Registered Nursing database.

Congratulations francis_coup! :)

hello to everyone here in this forum! I have also the same concern about getting my License in California. I passed the NCLEX-RN way back September 2007, and only this year I arrived here in US. To cut the story short, upon browsing several nclex forums luckily I found this and I read all your comments and follow every single details you guys have mentioned. I submitted everything that the CaBRN might be needing from me, it's passed 4 weeks now to be exact and no words coming from the Board so I'm a bit worried. Hopefully guys you can help me not to worry too much ;) Normally how long will take the Board to review a certain applications? Thank you in advance! And have a blessed day to everyone ;)

Hi francis_coup! Thanks alot for sharing your experience and to all who shared theirs in this post. I am also in the same boat as you guys are and I am expecting to get my SSN sometime in September 2013. I just have some concerns about how you guys did the process exactly. They are the following:

1. Anybody here submitted their Philippine license? If so, did the BON ask for it or you submitted it together with the application? I have my license in the Philippines but it has expired two years ago and I am here in the US now. I just want to know if the diploma would suffice or I really have to renew my Philippine license (which is really a headache to renew since I am all the way here in the US now).

2. Regarding the forms that we to send to our school like request for school transcript etc., did you guys (who are here in the US) mail an original form to the school via mail or just scanned it and sent it through email?

3. I just recently visited the CA BON website and right on top of their website says the following "The Department of Consumer Affairs is replacing current online licensing systems with the new BreEZe licensing and enforcement system. The transition could cause delays, possibly beginning in May." Does this mean they are not accepting cases like ours now? I am dreading that would happen because as of now I don't have an SSN yet. I am probably just being paranoid so anybody who knows anything would be a great help.

4. Finally here is my list of requirements that I am planning to provide when the time comes. Please comment if you think it is lacking anything.

A. Application form

B. Livescan fingerprint

C. Fee

D. SSN and a copy of the card

E. Passing letter for previous exam

F. Diploma

G. Philippine license (currently expired)

H. Request for transcript form

I. Breakdown of Educational Program for International Nursing Programs form

J. Nursing Program Verification form

Any information from anybody on this post will definitely help me in preparing my application and I appreciate it very much. Thank you so much and God bless us all.

@jpc_01: I got a response on the 3rd or 4th week asking for a photocopy of my SSN.

@ envanchoy: May I know your visa getting here coz I got my SSN in 10 days after arriving the US.

1. The application asks for any of the two. I just submitted a copy of my license. I got a letter weeks later asking for a copy of my diploma.

2. Regarding the request for transcript, I sent an original. Luckily, hours before my flight to US, I found out that I need to request for transcript so I left a signed request form. My sister just placed my SSN later.

3. I think we are not covered by that Breeze system

4. I think that's all you need.

Good Luck!

@jpc_01: try checking your name with their database(Permanent License Verification) at Board of Registered Nursing

@Misshanibee: THANKS!

Thanks alot for the quick response francis_coup! I got here as a tourist visa and lets just say I'm almost to the point that I will be able to get my SSN. I did notice they said it was diploma OR license in the form but just wanted to know what you guys sent. I have no idea about the NEW system they are posting in their website. Hopefully its not something that could affect previous NCLEX passers like us who have yet to file again. But anyways thanks again for your reply.

Anyone else who would like to share their input on the matter would be a great help not just to me but for people (with the same situation as we are in) who will be filing in the near future. Thanks again!

@francis_coup: trust me I'm checking it almost everyday hahahahha hoping for a good pop, maybe the board need more time to review my application, what I hate is that they're not even care to inform me if I still have lacking docs to complete. I submitted everything that I think it's important, its the waiting that killing me. Thank you for the reply. And cheers for becoming a certified USRN ;)
