There have been some valuable suggestions made. You will either have to work as a nurse in a jurisdiction where you are already registered (ie India) long enough to meet the safe practice requirements, or you will have to return to school at a Canadian university. CNO is actually your best source of information on this process, as it's their rules you're in conflict with. Their staff can answer this sort of question much more ably and accurately than anonymous posters on a discussion board.

    Hi seenachitresh,

Yes, I also suggest that you contact CNO at first to get reliable information and ask them about "returning to India and working as an RN to meet the safe practice requirements" ... (I think email contact is more reliable than phone). If they accept then you have enough time to work and meet "the safe practice requirement" and prepare for the OSCE exam at the same time. If not, start preparing for the OSCE.
On the other hand, to meet "the RN education requirement” you need to pass the OSCE; if you pass, then CNO will ask you to complete additional education "to meet the safe practice requirements”. Course content and the number of practice hours required depend on the number of years you have been out of nursing practice. I'm still not sure, but I heard that we can complete these courses in a nursing college, BUT If you cannot pass the OSCE, to meet "the RN education requirement " you need to go to York or Ryerson university and study again and it takes a long time to be registered.
Your safe practice expired anyway, so try to focus on the OSCE.
It maybe helpful to read this page about "Sagid" who passed the OSCE and the CRNE but because her safe practice expired CNO asked her to complete 250 hours of clinical courses:
    OSCE, CRNE, Safe Practice
At last, according to Touchstone Ins registration is now open for the following dates:
June 14, 2016 and November 24, 2016. Check their website:
    Touchstone Institute │ IENCAP
    Good Luck!

@yipeng did you read the tips about the OSCE given by posters Rianne post #42 & #47, Nuringprep #261 and Kakeru #265? Also, have you watched the video on Touchstoneinstitute and attended an information session through healthforceontario?

    Hi,
Thank you so much for the reply. I have read the posts and watched the video on Touchstoneinstitute. However, I find the information provided a bit too general and broad still. I haven't attended the information session yet but I will.

You can start by gaining a deeper understanding the National Competencies in the Context of Entry-Level Registered Nurse Practice (2014) document. Review the entry to practice document thoroughly, next search CNO for case examples, (they are published in their journal 'the Standard). Also search BC's college of nurses for case examples (CRNBC/ nursing standards/case studies and practice resources). Reviewing regulatory bodies case examples will help you to understand how to apply the competencies to the scenarios. It will also help you to understand why you should respond to clinical scenarios/situations in a certain way. There is a lot of information on the CNO and CRNBC that is helpful to understanding the Canadian nursing practice, it is worth your while to spend time reviewing their websites.

When you go to the healthforceontario orientation, try to find other IENs who are willing to form a study group. You should have a least three in the group, one to play the role of the nurse, one to play the role of the patient and one to play the role of the assessor.
Review books on OSCEs (the books are by UK authors but can give you ideas about preparing for OSCEs). Review Carolyn Jarvis Physical Examination and Health Assessment Canadian edition textbook or pocket companion. The above suggested books may be available at the public library, or they might be for sale on kijji by nursing students who no longer need them.
