osce ( observational structured clinical examination)

World Registration

Published

Hi,

I am internationally trained nurse from India. I applied for registration as RN in college of nurses of Ontario Oct 2011. They took over a year and finally determined that my education/ experience is not equivalent to those of current graduates of Canadian nursing program. They have asked me to write Observational Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) and pass in order to show equivalency. My question is that have anybody else been asked to take OSCE exam and what to expect? Also what does the college consider while evaluating education as other nurses from my college have been given eligibility without fulfilling any other criteria or exam!!

I am sorry to say, but I don't think the current Ontario economic market, is the right market for IENs living outside of Canada to pursue licensure in Ontario. I believe that those IENs will be spending thousands of dollars and jumping through numerous hoops but will not be eligible to work in Canada in the end.

Specializes in NICU, PICU, PCVICU and peds oncology.

Perhaps "eligible to work in Canada in the end" isn't what you mean to say. If they spend all that money, write and pass the CRNE or CPRNE then they're going to be eligible. They just won't be ABLE to work in Canada because they won't be able to find a job.

Even if they pass the CRNE they need proof of Canadian citizenship, permanent residency or refuge status before they can be licensed.

Hello nursebg! I am scheduled for next year's OSCE exam. I have to apply for a visa to go to Canada. What about you? Have you applied for a visa yet? Thanks for your reply.

Thanks Merrin. I got it and had it scheduled on Nov. 22,2013.

Hi lhiza, CEHPEA will send you a link to register for the exam, they may contact you as per their seat availability for the exam.Hope you would get the link soon.

Good luck

Actually, despite what the CNO website says, that is not actually true. My husband completed registration and is living in Canada on a work permit. There are a lot of jobs available in Ontario for RNs, especially if you are prepared to go into home healthcare.

To reiterate, you do not have to be a PR, citizen or refugee in order to complete registration with CNO
