NMC delay and ONP Course at Bournemouth

World Registration

Published

Hello all,

I'm currently in the process of being registered with the NMC. Has anyone sent their paperwork recently and still waiting for their decision letter? The NMC has put a hold on all the applications, just wondering if anyone has heard back recently.

ALSO: If all goes as planned, I will be taking the ONP Course at Bournemouth starting April 24th. Is anyone else out there planning on taking the same class??

Thanks! Okay, that makes me feel better. It's 2 years and i plan on taking the onp ASAP! BTW have you been working with Continental??? How is it?

furble: The 3rd and final time I was put into the decision queue was 24 January, and I received my "assessment of application"/Decision letter on 10 April...mind you I was delayed by the NMC's audit of the Overseas Nurses applications in Feb-Mar.

Also, to the others asking about Continental....I was going to work with them until I heard about PULSE. PULSE will reimburse employees 100% of the ONP (after 1,000 of work) versus Continental who only do half or so, plus, apparently the pay is better at PULSE.

But I've been with them since June and the steadiest shifts I can find are in district nursing. I'm enjoying it for what it is, but want to get back into the hospital. I've decided to go back to Continental and do a 13 week contract with them (I'll still stay on with PULSE for extra money, though). Hopefully all goes well....good luck to everyone!

The journey is a tough one I must say but I am not relenting.I received my decision letter in May 2012 which is almost expired and I am yet to get a placement(I am resident overseas)

When I finally got one last month, the agency(Epitome academy) said the university requires 9 months of my NMC letter because I need to do 6months supervised practice and I have about 4months left.

I need to have the decision letter extended by the ONP but I can't do it without an ONP offer because the extension mus come the Uni.

I pray I don't have to repeat this process all over again(i.e applying to the NMC) Now it's back to the drawing board.Looking for a Uni can give me an offer and appeal to the NMC on my behalf. It's a bit complicated but I'm hopeful.

You can contact Epitome Academy in Derby if you are in need of a placement(they take overseas applications too)

Hi I am new member here. I have sent my 2nd pack to UK almost a month ago. When I called them, I am told it is on "Decision Making Queue". What does it mean? Does it mean that all my papers are through and assessment is over OR will nmc ask for more details in case of further clarification? How long it will take to complete the procedures? Someone please help me out !!!

It means your papers are sitting on someone's desk, and will get looked at when they get round to it.

If you live a reasonable distance from London, I would show up and just sit there until someone comes down and talks to you.

Take a good book and a packed lunch and expect to be there all day.

If you are not in the UK yet, its more complicated, can you call the UK and speak to them?

PS - one thing I have found with the NMC is that they do not have a system for taking over work from a colleague when they go off sick.

If it happens that the person processing your applications goes off sick, your papers stay untouched on their desk until they return. There does not seem to be a way of transferring to someone else.

I had major trouble with them a few years ago when trying to get my Illinois licence and need supporting documents from the NMC. The person doing it went off sick, for three months, and everything was just left on her desk. I was in the US at the time, but ended up going to London to sort this out.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I am from India and planning to travel to UK by November 1st week.

I was wondering what would be the exact meaning of Decision Making Queue. So as per your reply there are still chances that NMC can ask for more clarifications. Anyhow I will wait for the reply from NMC.

They tend to take a long time, a lot of foreign RNs end up working as HCAs for the first year or so while they wait for their registration.
