Nevada NCLEX-RN Application - Fresh International Graduate

World Registration

Published

I went to Middle School and High School in California. I also had a one semester in College there. Eventually, I decided to move back to Philippines and finish my college. Obviously, I took up nursing.

I just graduated last April 2013 in the Philippines. I am a dual citizen - US and PHL. I've read and heard about the new law in Nevada wherein local license is required. Since I am a fresh a BSN graduate, I do not have a local license yet but I have no plan on taking the PNLE.

However, I still decided to apply in Nevada. I already started my CGFNS and planning to take TOEFL exam asap. I also passed my application papers then received my fingerprinting forms few days after.

My brother, a US citizen, took his NCLEX right after his graduation and passed it first time in California. As far as I remember it was during 2009 so he was lucky that he did not go to the strict and harder application process nowadays especially in California.

He suggested that I still should try in Nevada despite of the new law as do the same thing he did when he applied in California. Wherein, when the BON looks or/and asks for your license, the best way is to send them a letter explaining that you do not plan to work there (PHL) and you are a US citizen. By the way, I have two brothers who have done this and it worked.

The Nevada BON sent another letter to me saying that they are waiting for my CGFNS and TOEFL results. So far, I am going with the flow and plan to give it a shot.

Any suggestions?

Do you think that I'm doing the right thing or wasting my time and money as well? Feel free to comment. Thanks.

Thanks. How long does the whole process of applying for the exam usually take? @sakygen

It depends on how long you give the requirements. It took me about 5 months total from taking the TOEFL twice (yeah i failed the first time 'cause of the freaking speaking test so get the other option of cgfns 'cause TOEFL costs $200) to getting the CGFNS-CES expedited review (add $60, and make sure your school in the PHI participates and submit the required documents fast) to reviewing for the NCLEX for 2 months to taking the test. And then it took me a month to get employed as an RN with no insider help.

Hi there I am a fresh graduate from PH just last March 2014, a permanent resident and did not take the PNLE. I just want to know if Nevada BON will still require me that local license policy or if I could just go for the exam and apply.

However, did anybody here tried the LVN to RN process in Cali?

THANKS!

I don't think so but you need to call them to verify. Don't worry they won't put you on hold for an hour unlike CA BoN

Hi there! I just want to ask those who are done with their applications. It is about CGFNS-CES for Philippine graduates. I am in the process of sending the Request for Validation of License/Registration/Diploma. My one little problem is, should I send it directly to my previous school and PRC or do I need like a proxy (relative/friend) in the Philippines to have my Request for Validation delivered to them by going to their offices? Thanks :)

I would suggest having someone else deliver the necessary papers to the school to make sure that they get it. Your paper might get lost in transition who knows. I know my school well enough that I needed to pay them extra 'processing fee and mailing fee' so they would send the papers to CGFNS and that's fine with me as long as I know the papers are sent. Good luck on the application. Where in Nevada are you planning to work?

Hi thank you so much for your reply. Do you happen to know the PRC process? Do we really need a special power of attorney for our proxy, if he/she does not hold a professional license?

I'm currently residing here at South Nevada, Las Vegas. So, yeah hopefully next year I'll be able to complete this application. I heard it will take time.

No actually the PRC one is not needed but I still got it signed anyway to be sure. Great! Im from Henderson. Once CGFNS got your papers fast they would automatically review it so I think it would be good if you give a heads up to your Dean or the Assistant who will fill up your papers to not mess up your clinical hours and subjects on MS, OB, Psyche as some were required to take MS II (They offer just this subject at College of So.Nevada just in case they require that you take this class). They issued my ATT 1 week after they received my files. You already had your english test done i presume?

I see. Thank you for the heads up, that is very important. I hope I can finish this application smoothly. I am a little worried because I am not a new graduate. I finished my BSN in 2009, got PH license in 2010. So I am hoping I will not have the concurrency issue like some of international graduates. Anyways, regarding the English test. After I'm done with the CGFNS (payments and everything) the English exam is next on my list.

If you are a 2009 graduate you shouldn't have a problem even if you apply in CA where its a lot stricter. It mostly affects 2010 and up. I have a friend who is an 09 batch and he didn't take take the TOEFL but instead took the Pearson test of English Academy which accordingly is a lot easier than the former.
