Hong Kong Advanced Practice Nursing

World Registration

Published

I am an American nurse, and I am considering a move to Hong Kong in January 2011. At that time I will have a MSN degree in nursing and would be seeking a position as a Nurse Practitioner/Advanced Practice Nurse. I have reviewed information on the internet about nursing in Hong Kong, but have only found info on RN licensing and jobs. Does anybody know if there will be ANY opportunities for a nurse with an advanced degree?? Can anybody point me in the right direction? Even the HK Nursing Council does not have info online about advanced practice nursing. I would also be interested in teaching.

I am grateful for any info anyone can provide.

Hi, I have contacted them, and I have visted their office in Hong Kong when I was there for a holiday and I was given very little information and no one would answer my questions or explain their processes to me. Very frustrating. Thanks for the reply

Dear Meme,

Just let me know what kind of information do you want to know.

Hi Becclkm,

I m an RN from India. I have got Clinical as well as Academic Experience. I have shifted to Hong Kong a month ago. Checking for the registration and licencing system. The hours they have asked to complete the course is what i already have in my transcript. I wanted to know from you that in order to study or prepare for the exams, we need to refer books of NCLEX ;which seems to be available in Hong Kong Public Libraries. I am new to this place and searching for resources.

I also wanted to know. If anybody holds experience then do they exempt them from writing exam? Is writing exam a mandatory criteria?

Do you gals have the answers of the past Papers?

Yeah i am also interest in apply RN in Hong kong, and want to prepare for it. Are there any preparation course in hong kong?

Hi!, glad I found this thread. I'm currently a 2nd year nursing student in Canada and I'm planning to work in HongKong as a nurse after I graduate. I would like to know what are the requirements to work as a nurse in HK, any preparation or advice for me? Since I still have at least 2 years till gradutes, I hope that I will be more prepared and can be settle in HK quicker. I can speak Cantonese, mandarin fluently, I can read and maybe write.

Hi, I am a US-trained Family Nurse Practitioner from Japan seeking for a job in Hong Kong.

From what I have read so far, Matilda seems like the best option for me as I don't speak any Chinese and I supposed Japanese is seldomly used.

I am happy to work as a OB/GYN or OR/Theater nurse since it is something I always wanted to try. But would be even better if I can work using my Family Nurse Practitioner license and be able to diagnose and treat patients (i.e. write prescriptions), if permitted.

It's been a while since I took my NCLEX and been out of practice so it would be helpful if I can get more information as to how to prep for this.

(I assume anybody applying must take the written and practicum exam?)

Also, it would be helpful to know about how much can we expect to get paid as a regular nurse at a private hospital?

How about with advanced practice nurse position? - if there are any available... haven't seen any yet.

Thank you so much for this forum. Helps a lot!

I've been working in a clinic in Hong Kong for 6 years as a clinic assistant (same duties as an RN). You need to hold a valid (non-expired) license from some where. I'm an RN, BSN US trained nurse and I don't speak Cantonese. You'll need to find an expat friendly clinic :) where they prefer English speakers. Hope that helps!

Hi, JpnFNP, can US-trained FNP work in Japan? Can they work as a nurse practitioner?
