Graduate in the Philippines to take NCLEX in California

HI, I'd like to ask if someone has the same sitch as me and what they did.

I am a graduate of Manila Doctors College last May 2011.

I'm back here in California. I am a permanent resident (green card holder). I have read on the CA.RR.GOV that I do not need to take the Philippine local boards or the cgfns and the toefl exam to take the NCLEX.

I have already accomplished my livescan and sent in my application and paid 150$.

Now they have sent me a letter requiring me with the following things:

1. Class schedule for the nursing program completed at MDC

2. Transcript for all education and training sent from MDC

3. Enrollment forms during my nursing years

4. Clinical rotation schedule and/or student logbook reflecting dates, instructor's signature and location of clinical training completed

5. Social security card

6. Passport and visa

I have no problem with numbers 2,5 and 6. But my the others I don't know how to get. :( I don't have a copy of my class schedules anymore, and so as my enrollment forms for 4 years. and most importantly, the clinical rotation schedule with dates and instructor's signature. :( HOW WERE YOU GUYS ABLE TO ACCOMPLISH THAT? I'm self reviewing for my exam and going to the library everyday, but right now i cant focus because I don't know how to accomplish these things. :(

I REALLY HOPE SOMEONE CAN GIVE ME AN ADVICE ON WHAT'S THE BEST THING TO DO.

Hi, hope this information will help you.

All school documents (request TOR form with certified transcrift, Breakdown of Educational Program for International Nursing Programs form, Nursing program verification) forwarded directly from the nursing school to BRN-CA.

then the other requirements (fee (money check), finger print live or card, 2x2 photo, license or diploma with a written explanation why you are not RN in the country where u are graduated.)

note: Nsg Prog Verification is not mentioned in the requirements but if you click the link of application for licensure by examination u will see that form (6th page from the last).

and about green card and working permit, as far as i know once you have your green card automatically you can get your SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER. i dont remember if u have to go in SS office to file your SSN or they will send your SS card automatically with your green card. either of the 2. :D so once you have your SSN you can apply for work without working permit.

Godbless. . .

Usually you have to go down to the local SSN office once you have your GC (usually wait 2 weeks to get in the system) isn't always sent automatically even if you tick that box on the application form

Hello everyone, My name is Kim.. I graduated Nursing in Philippines ( OLFU-Val Oct 2009 ) and took the NLE in Phils. ( March 2010 - I didnt pass ) Now I'm here in Ca, waiting for my greencard, I'am informed that I need to have SSN before applying for NCLEX but now I'm already stressed thinking that I might also need to go back to Philippines just to do all the requirements? Or I could just give a call to my school for them to do it? Can anyone help me about this matter. Greatly appreciated for any replies! God bless! KUDOS!

hello everyone, im a new grad (april 2011) from the phils and took the nle and passed given last july 2011 and now im here in california...before i left i had with me my certificate of board passing but i dont have my license since it takes forever to get the license card in the philippines so what i did was, i submitted that cert. of passing and board rating in lieu of my license card and the evaluation board here in cali still ask for those docements theyre asking for those who did not, can anyone relate to me here? need some advice thanks... anthony

some pinoys thought it would be easier to just take-off after graduating from a uni in the philippines and just take the NCLEX in the US. Well, totally a different set of paperwork.. and a whole lot of expenses... Would be a diff story if you came from a top/good university.. then they will just send your credentials or any paperwork that you need. if not.. suffer the consequences.. if you dont have someone in the philippines to follow up your paper work from your old school.. it wont do you any good... you have to wait for a few months before you can get it together...

anyway.. considering you pass the nclex-rn exam in your state... how easy would it be to get a job without any RN experience...???

Im beginning to worry now since a relative of mine who is in CA told me that RN experience should now be from Tertiary hospitals (philippine-based) .. you guys know what I mean...

you guys are lucky.. your already there.. and some of you maybe have relatives to stay with... but passing the NLE, and passing a few req to take the NCLEX-rn is so much easier..

hi mitcharvi12 i have the same problem with you my fiancee is living in cali and petitioning me to come there i also want to get NCLEX exam or LPN in cali but i need to complete the requirements b4 i come,my concern is how long does fiancee visa takes? and with you going to hawaii how many months did it takes? and do u think there is a big chance of visa approval on us ?what did the immigration ask you during the interview ?im afraid to get decline cuz my bf spend alot of money for the visa processing..i hope to hear from you soon..thank you

hi everyone,.. i just wanna share this with you... hope you can give me some advice on what to do coz im new here and its only 5 months since i came here to the US.. i came here as fiance visa i dont have my permanent residency card yet and ill be having my interview on nov.8 .. i do have my ssn already... i wanna start applying for the NCLEX-RN but i dont know where to start and i dont know the sequence/process of application.. my case is i graduated 2008 i took the local board but unfortunately i wasnt able to pass the exam an so i decide to work in a different field so i got it out of my mind... i came here may 2011 ... you think they goin let me take the NCLEX-RN with my situation? -- hope to hear from you guys .. :(

Hi mitcharvi12. how are you doing? i just wanna keep in touch with you about your NCLEX process. I am also a filipina and came here in Hawaii through fiance visa. We are pretty much of the same situation. I don't hold any license from Philippines because I moved here right after graduation. Are you still in Hawaii? Which island? I am on Maui. I took the NCLEX last May for the first time and failed. Now I am trying to retake the test in January. So if you need anything about the NCLEX application don't hesitate to ask me. I would be more than willing to help. If you are trying to get licensed in Hawaii or California I am pretty sure the BON will allow you to apply for NCLEX. Visit the CGFNS website and look for CES. You will need that for evaluation and that's a requirement for NCLEX application. I hope to hear from you soon. Feel free to email me @ [email protected].

do hawaii need CGFNS? CA doesnt require CGFNS im sure about it

nope. just the CES from CGFNS. California doesn't require CES report or CGFNS because they do their own evaluation.

Hello everyone, please i need your help guys on how to apply nclex in CA? since i graduated in philippines 5 years ago i took NLE 2006 but sadly i failed.im here now in los angeles,CA.i dont know how to start my application or do i need refresher course? thank you so much !

I hate to be the pessimistic one here, but California recently changed their policy as far as Foreign Nurses go. They are requiring that clinicals and lectures be taken concurrently (during the same semester). In the Philippines, our curriculum is much different in the way it is structured and they are "questioning" it now.

A few of my batchmates (2010) are now having problems in getting an ATT via california. They are even asking for the list of major/minor/delivery cases that we performed. Why would they need such a thing when American curriculums won't even let student nurses perform actual assists in the OR? I applied for my ATT around this time last year and I managed to get my ATT and now a California RN license holder. With the same curriculum and credentials, why are my batchmates being denied?

The real answer is California is being discriminatory vs Foreign Nurses, if not only Philippine-trained nurses. One can wonder why. Is it because the job market is despicable now that the California nursing field is saturated with unemployed nurses, both American and Foreign trained? Are they trying to limit the influx of foreign nurses into California in order for American Nurses to get placed first?

CA BON's only solution for the "curriculum shortcomings" is to go back to school in California to fulfill the discrepancies. If the discrepancies are about concurrence, then that means u basically have to take all your NCM lectures and Clinicals all over again. Oh and if the job market is hard to get into, getting into nursing school esp for a BSN is much more difficult. Schools only take a few hundred or less students at a time.

My batchmates have explored this situation very much. We thought that perhaps going through another state (all other 49 states are less stringent) and applying for reciprocity to California will be the easiest solution. If you look at the licensure for reciprocity/endorsement, they are still requiring that u send ur complete transcript and letter from the school, very much like the requirements for licensure by examination in california. Basically this means, they can still deny your licensure for reciprocity to California on the grounds that your Foreign Nursing Education is still not good enough for a California license on the grounds that your clinicals and lectures were not concurrent. If you compare this to NJ's licensure for endorsement requirements, NJ only requires you to send 1. their fee, 2. verification of license from original state, 3. fingerprints, and 4. application. I got my NJ license with no questions asked. I'm sure the other 48 states require about the same as NJ.

The concept is the NCLEX is a nationally accepted nursing licensure exam. It means if u take your NCLEX in NJ, it should be good enough for all the other 49 states. But apparently, California can still decline your application. If your target state is California, you are pretty much screwed. If you're already in California, you can try moving to another neighboring state. If you are planning to come to the US, save your money and apply to another state. NY does not require a SSN, but it takes a long time (6+months) to get processed. Some other states are quicker.

Just a little eye opener for all you would be California NCLEX applicants.
