Hello everyone! New here:) and been searching for days....still have not found an answer...

Im a Foreign (Filipina) Nurse Moving to Texas and trying to plan/apply at the Texas BON soon. Their site implies that I can only take the NCLEX test with Pearson Vue? and with their authorization #. Can I take the NCLEX test in Texas ONLY or can I take it Now in the Philippines?

I have a Bachelors Degree in Nursing, and been working the last 2.5 years as an RN-OB Staff Nurse in the Philippines.

Please advise....also any comments suggesting best city to work in Texas are appreciated

Thanks

Okay, but if ever i get a license in Texas, do i have to move there or can I exchange it for a CA license, without having to go through the whole application for NCLeX again?

Here's a link to trying to endorse into CA or any of the recent 16 States that are enforcing the concurrency rules:

But to answer your question: if you get licensed in TX, you can work in TX and any States that is a "compact" state, but not in any of the non-compact States, but can do so if you apply there, from my understanding? Please correct me if I'm wrong.

You just can't endorse-transfer your TX license into CA or the other States affected with the concurrency issue.

Oh is that so..then my only option is to enroll classes for MS & OB here in Cali..

Okay, thanks for the info. I'm still waiting for my letter until now, it's taking so long, it's been 3 weeks..

I think you're from the new PH curriculum so you might be "safe" from the concurrency rules, but wait till you get the final decision letter from the CA BON before looking into the MS/OB courses.

You may not need to do them at all and you'll soon be a CA RN, once you pass the NCLEX. Good luck!

But remember compact license only works if you have permanent residency in the state ie Texas and maintain residency whilst working in another compact state. Move permanently and you have to apply to endorse license to new state

Thanks steppybay, all of us are still waiting you know..

We're just getting our back-up plans ready just in case.

We might settle for LVN if we get denied..

Ahh, got it, thanks for the clarification!

Yes, but even so, you still have the option as the others do who take the LVN route to become an CA RN, after getting the LVN license, to enroll in the deficient courses in CA that was deemed ineligible to re-take them to satisify the requirements then re-apply for the NCLEX-RN exam.

I am taking my test with Texas too. You can take your test there in the Philippines. As for which city is best, houston and san antonio is in great need of nurses. Goodluck :)

That's good news, good luck on your NCLEX-RN!

Do you know if these cities are good for hiring foreign nurses into better hospitals or smaller ones too are okay also. Do you have people or you know who were recent foreign hires in the cities?

Hi steppybay!I'm a filipino RN based in San Antonio tx and I can tell you this is a wonderful city. Been here since 2000, I tried to live in the east coast but I had to come back to SAT because people are nicer, friendlier, cost of living is low and the local economy is booming. Speaking of employment opportunities, during the early 2000, hospitals in the city are luring nurses with bonuses. I myself get to benefit from it too :-) But at the present, I haven't heard of a hospital here offering such. In the hospital where I'm currently employed, which I cannot name due to privacy issues...sorry, they only hire nurses who were schooled in their system or who's school has affiliations to them. I started 2008 in this hospital. I got lucky since I just did a walk in and a job fair is being held at that time so I got hired on the spot. But things hasn't been very rosy after that. Hiring has been limited to what I've mentioned. Although on our particular floor, we've been begging for extra staff to help us out, they just won't hire for budget reasons. You're best bet would be the hospitals along the valley, which is way down south of Texas. I heard they still offer bonuses but I'm not 100% sure. It sure does not hurt to try applying in the big cities like Houston, Dallas or even here in San Antonio but chances are slim.Anyway good luck to you. You sound like a really smart person and I hope you have better luck here in Texas.Keep us posted ok!

do you guys think TX BON needs Philippine License?
