i'm a filipino nurse searching thread about wa nurses here and i found out that the one and only post available was also mine.. hahaha.. so i thought of starting another one... most of threads are for the whole australia.. this is specifically for wa

this thread is intended for those who are seeking registration to nmbwa. wanurses are most welcome in this thread.. we want to hear from you and those who are currently undertaking bp...

hi just to add some information regarding curtin. you have two options in curtin. first you can take the conversion which requires the nmbwa letter and this will take 1 year using your student visa and you can work up to 20 hours per week. its better if you are already in oz under pr or citizen status you dont need to process a student visa. if you dont have letter from nmbwa you can still enrol in curtin you will take up bsn which is hor 2 years they have few requirements than conversion. it is also under student visa which you can work up to 20 hor per week for 2 years. both are expensive. however if you take conversion its cheaper and after 1 year you will become oz rn although some schools and hospitals offer the so called bp which you will be oz rn fr just 10 weeks. on the other hand if you are decided to take the bsn course for 2 years, if you are successful you will be oz rn after 2 years and also you can apply for pr after 2 years of studying in oz.. hey people in perth is nurses still in demand there? because i knew few people who finished bp and conversion in perth but until now they cant find employer for them to have a work permit meaning after conversion or bp still they cant find a job as rn. thanks a lot..

wow thanks a lot for the info. i would be sending my documents to nmbwa then. my uni is equivalent to an aus uni so taking the 2 yrs bsn would really be ridiculous. i'm considering nbv too but i don't like the idea of being separated and alone in an unknown territory. i'd rather go one year again. hehe. sorry to my uni. although my degree is equivalent to an aus degree i'd rather live a comfartable life in curtin than the very stressful melbourne bridging. and waiting for jan 2011 deakin is the same with having my conversion at least i'm already taking a step. when yayey and i graduate from curtin next year work opportunities would be endless because our license would already be valid everywhere in aus. put to the fact that curtin is a premiere uni. haha

Yes it's my first course. How about you? You needed to decide because a lot of money is at stake in curtin. But you can earn it a thousand times back. Where are you? I'm in Carlisle.

it's my 2nd. i'm in stirling. i imagine you have family here too? would like to meet you one day. are you in any way with fasa? coz sometimes i go with my relatives when they have a game.

I applied to Curtin's 1 year nursing conversion without the NMBWA eligibility letter and i received my offer letter 2 weeks ago. But I guess after completion of the course, one need to apply to the National Registration body by that time to get a license.

Are you gonna go for nbv or nmbwa? Curtin conversion is very expensive for int'l students but I'll be applying as a local and apply for HELP once we get our pr. By ratio and proportion conversion is cheaper and more convenient for me. But to anyone who can afford curtin, it's the best investment because curtin is a premiere uni so you can apply in major hospitals all over aus. You can also apply for graduate visa upon graduating because your course falls under professionals needed in aus same with doctors, dentists and engineers. I think work opportunities after bridging won't land you a job on major and leading hospitals. I don't wish to work in some mediocre hospitals. I'm after rph and sir Charles.

good for you. you're way ahead already working for your pr at the same time enrolling at curtin for the 2nd intake. wish i were as fortunate. but i guess i just have to figure it all out. will talk to my folks first for the FUNDS (crossing my fingers here). i will try applying for 2011. i agree, curtin's conversion program by far is the best option there is for us new RNs from back home.

really?? this is where it gets confusing. in their website, it says

"Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites

Current registration with the Nurses and Midwives Board of Western Australia, or be eligible for registration, and have completed general and/or mental health training (a minimum of three years in duration) in a hospital based school of nursing."

so hmmm is it a case to case basis then?

i agree to terdjay curtin is a premiere uni.. but awwww.. the tuition is very expensive. i also submitted an application to murdoch university in perth. they have 1 year conversion program like curtin but their tuition is not so expensive i guess you can save 5000AUD compare to curtin.. murdoch is also affiliated in various leading hospital in WA but boy curtin is affiliated in RPH. but i hope nurses are still in demand after i finish my conversion next year.. Not yet doing anything right now. The pr is delaying everything. It's good to know I don't need letter of eligibilty. I'll enroll right away after getting that pr because there are still passport stamping and personal presence at DIAC. It'll probably be May already that I'd be able to send my documents to nmbwa. My dad's a specialist so no problem with our pr. Funds are the biggest hindrance to the curtin dream. But if there's a will there's way. Just get you letter then. It's valid for 3 yrs anyway. After July things might be very complicated and no more chance for us new graduates with no experience or even for 2nd coursers. This July is causing anxiety to everyone. Who knows what would happen...

Yes,that's the prerequisite written in their website,i also had doubts like you before .Those with NMBWA eligibility before were entitled six months of study instead of the whole year program. Sadly, they don't offer it anymore even if you have the eligibility like Yayey and others. Sunchaser1019, who is currently studying at Curtin with his/her cousin mentioned on the other thread that some of her classmates don't have eligibility from NMBWA but were able to go with the program; also ,I know a Female Indian from other forum who was able to enroll without eligibility letter. Probably they changed their rules already but failed to update their website. Hehehe
