Dual Citizen (Fil-Am) RN taking NCLEX

Hi! I am a Dual citizen (Fil-Am). I finished my nursing course here in the Philippines and earned my RN license here. Right now, I am planning to take the NCLEX but there are things that confuse me.

Am I considered a foreign nurse (who still needs to take the CGFNS exam)?

I am applying for Massachusetts..

Thanks in advance.. :)

No, I didn't take the Philippine NLE. I've submitted all my requirements for the CGFNS CES application for MA. They told me to wait for 8-10 weeks for approval.

I think if you're a dual citizen, that it's to your benefit to go ahead and take the local exam, it will look good on your resume when applying for a US job. I mean, if the hiring manager happens to see another foreign application without the PH license noted over yours that has that added nursing license, it might be the one that gets more consideration and into the "okay" stack.

In the very competitive job market, you need every little bit of edge you can get.

If you fail the local exam, then, no harm done, just know that then, you fall under the same status of another foreign nurse but no other nursing credentials to boost your application to the top.

I have my CGFNS-CES report issued for the Massachusetts BON already. It says that my degree is similar to a US RN degree. Would you guys know the wait time for Massachusetts? I'm thinking about enrolling at KAPLAN for my online review. Is it okay to enroll now while waiting for their approval? or would it take longer than 3 months(the duration of a Kaplan qbank online access)? Thank you so very much.

Hi dsingson5, I have read the Massachusetts BON's requirements for licensure by examination (NCLEX) and I would just want to clarify which type of Credentials Evaluation Service (CES) report is required: the Professional Report or the Academic Report? What type of report did you submit? Thanks..

That's also kind of my concern..though I haven't even started processing the CGFNS CES yet. I also want to start preparing for the NCLEX exam with Kaplan. One of the NCLEX Test Prep Programs they are offering here in the Philippines consists of a 4-month online review, plus 22 live sessions.

I just want to ask, especially fellow Filipino nurses, who have already taken the Kaplan Philippines review program: When is the BEST TIME to take the Kaplan review? BEFORE processing your NCLEX application? WHILE WAITING for your Authorization to Test (ATT)? or AFTER receiving your ATT letter?

I am really clueless since it's my first time to take & prepare for the NCLEX. Any input will be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much..

Hi francesg,

For mine, I got the CES Professional Report.

As for the Kaplan Review, I suggest you take it before ATT and right when you're just submitting your application. For MA, they would only allow you 60-days right after you get approved for the ATT for NCLEX not enough time to finish the Philippine Kaplan's 4-month review. I'm waiting for the ATT(which will come next week) because the Kaplan review here in SF is only for 2 weeks(depending on the schedule you choose) and online access to the Q-bank is 3 months.

I wish you luck francesg.

Your advice has been really very helpful. Thank you dsingson5! Wishing you the best of luck too! :)

Hello again..I have read the requirements for the Credentials Evaluation Service (CES) and I would just want to clarify this requirement: "Documentation of your secondary school education". Does it mean CGFNS would still require transcripts from my secondary school/high school, aside from the diploma? Thank you..

They waived it for my application because I proved that I graduated/attended college.

You should definitely email PCS if you're applying in MA. They do respond right away.

Hello guys!Quick question, does Ma requires TOEFL or IELTS?Thanks:)

Hi dsingson5! I am also interested to apply in Massachusetts but I am quite confused regarding the specific Good Moral Character requirements that I need to pass and forms that I need to fill up. I hope you can help me. Thanks!
