Desperately need guidance re NCLEX-RN validity of eligibility

World Registration

Published

Good day fellow RN's! Kindly shed some light on a dilemma I am having. I am a foreign graduate nurse applying to take NCLEX-RN in New Mexico. My CES from CGFNS was just sent 4 days ago to the BON. I have been reading other posts&NM BON site, but forgive me am still confused&unclear about the duration of the validity of the eligibility. Once eligibility is issued, how long is it valid for? The thing is I need to extend the duration of my application as I have a great opportunity to work abroad in approximately 2-4 mos and can take a vacation after approx. a year of being there.

I would highly appreciate any advice and guidance that you may impart. Taking that overseas job is also a requirement for me to be able to qualify to be processed with a recruitment agency for the U.S. while processing my NCLEX application.

Thank you for taking the time in reading this and being patient with me.

Eligibility usually last 2-5 years depending on state it usually is 90 days to sit NCLEX once ATT is issued

Thank you so much for your response! If I may, does this mean that I may have approximately 2-5 years to register for pearson vue and pay the fee and after that obtain the ATT that only has 90 days until expired?

Below is information I copied from the website of New Mexico BON:

"2. Register and pay $200 to Pearson VUE via theInternet or telephone.§ Payment via MasterCard, Visa or AmericanExpress will be accepted.

You must be made eligible by the board ofnursing (see Step 4) within 365 days of yourregistration and payment."

"4.Board of nursing makes you eligible in thePearson VUE system."

If my understanding of number 2 is correct, 365 days is kind of the deadline for the BON to give an applicant their eligibility right? It is not stating that the eligibility is for 365 days?

Thank you again for being patient.

What it is saying is that you must have eligibility from the state within 365 days of paying pearsonvue. I also recommend that you do not pay pearsonvue until you have eligibility to sit the exam especially if trained outside of the USA

Once the state reviews your application and gives you permission to sit NCLEX that is eligibility to sit the exam. That can be anywhere from 2-5 years depending on the state. Once you apply to pearsonvue to sit the exam you have used your eligibility and now have up to 90 days to schedule and sit the exam.
