Can anyone help me here, I'm planning to take the LVN exam because I just got denied by CABON because of the concurrency issue..I just want to know:

Method #3 - Equivalent Education and/or Experience(the PHARMACOLOGY course)Do I need to submit it also? and how? or I just need to submit only the

Method #2 - Graduates of an Out-of-State School of Practical/Vocational Nursing.

BTW, I'm an international graduate, Registered Nurse from the Philippines but I can't sit for the NCLEX-RN exam that is why I decided to take this one. Hope someone can answer my question thank you.

this forum is very helpful, thank you guys for the information. im planning also to apply in nclex-pn. does anyone of u already got a confirmation that you could take the nclex-pn?

Specializes in OB Pedia MS.

Hi future USRN'sI wrote the analyst an appeal regarding the status of my application but he is kind enough to explain to me once and for all the Code of Regulation they are strictly implementing though he haven't answered my question regarding my classmates who in 2011 just took the nclex and have already passed. He did suggest that I first challenge the LVN as he stated in his email that "he wants to accept my application as much as he wants to but cannot because of the policy so he is recommending the bvnpt examination first hand." He further stated that he can see my perseverance and determination to take the exam and he wishes me goodluck on pursuing my career as a nurse.Talk about those consoling words! i just wish he could've given me the att instead of those because all i need is their approval!Oh yeah, after I read his letter, I have decided to pursue LVN, instead of putting in effort to go to a higher position so I can whine with this situation. Useless is not the word but to do that requires a lot of wasted time, anyways I just knew that it wont work anyway..For now I just want to pursue lvn but first I am applying for a job in homecare while reviewing for lvn exam. Then next year I will study MS and OB.It is a very painful decision to go the other path because I already have great plans when I became a USRN,one of those is to get a job at Kaiser Permanente. There are a lot of hindrance and rocks in the road but there is no way Im giving up with my nursing career.I've put so much effort in it when I was still a student(well,I admit,I am generally a good student with no vices at all), its not that I'm after the $$$(well,of course who doesnt need money!) its the decent dream job of mine to e a nurse...Goodluck to our endeavors guys!aja!

just an fyi, you may not qualify for the method #3 because i believe that's for cnas with many years experience in all fields of nursing who can take the nclex-pn. you may want to contact the bvnpt directly and get clairfication because using method #3 will limit your scope as an lvn. you may not be able to take the iv ceritfication with using method #3. i'm advising you to contact the board directly. you may be able to apply as a lvn with out using any of the methods. good luck

according to the bvnpt website, there are 5 methods to take the test:

method #1 - graduates of california approved schools of vocational nursing in californiainstructions are on file with each school. applications must be submitted by the director of your nursing program. contact your program director for application instructions and forms.

as the name indicates, it is the method or way for california vn graduates. this is what the students who took their vn classes in california. method #2 - graduates of an out-of-state school of practical/vocational nursing

applicant live scan fingerprint forms - required with method #2this method requires completion of a course in vocational or practical nursing in a school approved by the board of nursing in the state in which it is located.

this is for us educated vn who finished their vn classes outside of california but within one of the other 50 states in the us (aside from california). method #3 - equivalent education and/or experience

employment verification - nursing experience - required with method #3

applicant live scan fingerprint forms - required with method #3this method requires the equivalent of completion of 51 months of paid bedside nursing experience in an acute care facility, verification of skill competency and 54-theory hours of pharmacology. applicants with formal nursing education may submit official transcripts for a determination of possible credit in lieu of paid bedside nursing experience.

most of the foreign educated nurses fall into method # 3. education is substituted for the bedside nursing experience. while cna experience may have their licenses limited, by applying in method 3 via educational credit, licenses are issued just like the vn-state educated vns.method #4 - military applicants

applicant live scan fingerprint forms - required with method #4this method requires no less than 12 months of active duty bedside patient care on a hospital ward, completion of the basic course of instruction in nursing while in the armed forces and proof that service has been honorable.4-year expired california licensed vocational nurse

applicant live scan fingerprint forms - required with method #5

it is always safe to contact the boards. however, you also need to know that all licenses fall into methods. don't lose hope!

good morning everyone, just a quick question that may have been answered already. what's the difference between an analyst and an evaluator? or are they one of the same. btw this is in regards for the CABON.

Good question, maybe you might want to start a new topic under a LVN and NCLEX-PN title? Or anyone else?

Just a suggestion, what about apply to other state and endorse or file for reciprocity later...

kabayan requirements for reciprocity or endorsement will be the same, they will still ask for the copy of our clinical cases...so if we really want to work here in California its either study to complete the deficiency or take the LVN exam..

ooohhh that really hurts.. Sorry for that kabayan.. That's a little way of being so called "discrimination" I just wish that won't implement to other state.. But I guess BON's nowadays are getting more strict in their requirements, I got problem with my CES report for Vermont too.. They said I got insufficient number of hours in pediatric nursing- Still working on it..

its ok kabayan, dont be sorry...:)many of us IEN grads.are having prob.nowadays with the application requiremnts but its ok no matter how strict they are...as long as they are giving us options on what to do its a good sign, meaning our dreams to work as a nurse here in the US is still there...:)

Im sorry to hear that! Me too that's my BIG problem I already passed nclex-rn in illinois but i want to endorse it here in california. I hope there will be schools that will cater for us to be granted a CA license.

you guys are lucky, because here in NJ LPN jobs nowadays are taking so slow, infact they encourage those LPN working in the Hospital to take BSN-RN course because sooner or later they won't allow LPN/LVN. So i just wish I can take nclex Rn this year.. God willing.. Let's keep on praying Kabayan
