Denied by CABON now to take LVN..

Can anyone help me here, I'm planning to take the LVN exam because I just got denied by CABON because of the concurrency issue..I just want to know:

Method #3 - Equivalent Education and/or Experience(the PHARMACOLOGY course)Do I need to submit it also? and how? or I just need to submit only the

Method #2 - Graduates of an Out-of-State School of Practical/Vocational Nursing.

BTW, I'm an international graduate, Registered Nurse from the Philippines but I can't sit for the NCLEX-RN exam that is why I decided to take this one. Hope someone can answer my question thank you.

So after you send your first initial application , they ask u about pharm? I send mine initial but didn't ask for pharm but ask for declaration ..Ty.,,

Update on my situation everyone. Took my NCLEX-PN here in CA 2nd week of October, found out today I just passed with 85 questions. I used Excell Nursing Review and I believe that coupled with my studying effort and prayer allowed me to pass.

Now the next step is to take the NCLEX-RN out of state. From my thinking, at least if I pass the NCLEX-RN outside of CA, I only need to take the classes in order to validate my deficiencies and reciprocity my license from out of state. That is now agenda #1 for me.

From my short research, 9 states now re-inforce the concurrency laws and I believe ALL States require CGFNS. In my current financial situation, I cannot afford to spend money on CGFNS and would like to apply to a State that does not require CGFNS in order to apply for the NCLEX-RN. Anyone with want to add their .02 cents?

Most states will require CGFNS or some other form of recognised assessment of which I believe will cost roughly the same

Just to clarify... You took the exam October, and found out that you passed just recently? Almost a year wait? What about your license? When wil you have it?

Yes, agree with WolfDust50, did you mean Oct. 2012 or mistaken a 2013 month? Anyways, the least of your worries of having to the CGFNS or any English exams should be not even be a priority.

You should first of all, find a school out of state that's willing to accept you to take the deficiencies. That out of state school should put their intention to register as a IEN student in writing (e-mail is okay, but a formal letter of acceptance is best). Then get whatever that state's NCLEX requirements needs to be done, be it the items you are so trying to avoid.

Or simply just move to that state, do your completion of courses and then re-apply in CA, but you better get a firm written letter or memo from the CA BRN that they will accept those courses.

As you know, any courses must be approved by the CA BRN, they could care less if you take it out of state, only to find out after a few months to a year or more, the courses you took that's acceptable in that state is totally useless in the CA BRN eyes.

I'm sorry I meant 2nd week of August, 2013. And I just got my results yesterday after the long weekend. Approximately 3 week wait. I don't know how to modify posts but I will figure it out once I have access to a pc.

My license will arrive ~4 weeks after I send payment to BVNPT of $150 to process my new license. As the saying goes, you gotta pay to play.

@steppybay yes I have been following your posts and I am aware that the Board needs to confirm the course before considering applying to those schools. I am following the suggestion of my analyst who handled my case with the BRN. She suggested I apply for the NCLEX-RN first and worry about completing the deficiencies at a later time. At least I would have passed the NCLEX-RN and all that wouldbe required to practice in CA would be to fulfill those deficiencies.

I have heard rumors of schools here in Nor Cal offering deficiency courses for IEN. I believe a university in Oakland, CA is offering but have yet to confirm.

Another option, albeit way more expensive, is doing the LVN -RN bridge programs. I still need to contact the BRN whether this is a viable way to fulfill deficiencies in case. I met someone who took an accelarated RN program and paid up to 80,000 in total after the loan was factored in. That is a lottt of money.

Yes, there was another posting here that their friend took the deficiency courses up your way, completed it and now eligible to take the NCLEX-RN in CA. I don't think it was an Oakland university, I could be wrong, I thought it was in the SF city area and was about $14,000, maybe less?

The poster never did reply back yet to my inquiry here (about the actual school name and final cost) in the forum, but did say, they wished they had taken the same courses when their friend did it recently.

The issue about the LVN-RN route is how to get into an approved program that's got several hundred up to a 1,000 applicants without going with the more expensive private and "for profit" schools versus the cheaper harder to get into community schools.

Thanks for clarifying.. Any tips and pointers that you might want to share with future-takers? And may I also ask when did you receive your ATT and how long did you wait for it..? Thank you..!

For future-test takers I suggest to first off respect the exam. Passing this exam is what allows us to practice our profession. Without it we are unable to utilize the skills and knowledge we learned throughout school. Secondly, simply don't memorize but understand. The NCLEX is situational and tests the future Nurses knowledge base under pressure. Memorizing won't allow you to recall the information you need to answer the questions. It is essential to understand why do nurses perform these interventions when dealing with certain clients. Once understood keep refreshing and re-inforcing that understanding. That, IMHO, is the only way to pass this exam.

Regardless of being NCLEX-PN or RN, both are very difficult and require your utmost concentration and focus. The recent NCLEX-PN I took was pretty much as hard as the NCLEX-RN I took last year. Aside from attending the Excell review class, I self studied on and off for a very long time. From the time I took my first NCLEX-RN in 2012 up until now I would read and answer questions here and there never really studying that hard. I think I have answered close to 6,000 questions with intermittent studying. The Excell review class I took in July is what really help me buckle down and study as well as I did. After Excell class was finished I studied for about 2 weeks straight every single day at a minimum of 5 hours a day before I took my NCLEX. Sorry for such a long answer but I feel attitude has a lot to do with the success and effort put into passing this exam.

It took a while for my ATT to arrive, I was in constant contact with the BVNPT because it took forever for my ATT to get to me. I think it took around 3 months from the time I sent my payment to PearsonVUE.
