you need to have a hook up right now when applying for a job..its not what u know, its who u know..thats how its works in the us right now..

Yeah, I guess it's like that all over...not what you know but whom you know...as much as i wish a job would just drop right in front of my face it's not gonna happen. we're all going to need a breakthrough from God in that. right now i have zero/zip/nada work experience, and it just sucks knowing that i've worked so hard in school and worked hard studying for the exam and now it's still a zero. when i'll ever earn back what we've spent for school i don't know.. one day i guess, may God's blessings and the best of luck to us all! :)

Exactly......when was the last time one of us kababayans posted up..."Hey, I got the hospital job", "I have an interview coming up", "I start working next week at XXX hospital". I think the last posting was in 2009 and that was with a nursing home. Sorry for me, that's not where I prefer to work.

As you can see, it's interesting that so many of my friends and their friends are all in the same boat of "once we pass the NCLEX, we're finally "new grads"!!

Nope, that's not the case at all in the US job market and in fact, the vast majority of us international students will have surpassed the 1 year time limit to even apply as a "new grad" for any residency programs. My US nursing friends have said that many (hospitals) are enforcing the 1 year graduation date to be considered for any new grad positions.

If you desire to work in the nursing homes or LTC or SNF and places like this, it's not so restrictive, but for those of us who prefer the hospital job setting, it's near impossible to apply. So this also just puts on more burden on us as the US jobs are hiring more of their locals or US educated grads or nurses with hundreds to thousands of applicants after a few jobs.

You are right steppybay.Unlike before, hospitals weren't strict regarding new grad's policies.Hospitals are very tight nowadays when it comes to hiring inexperience nurses. In my sister's work, they're hiring their staff nurses who worked as unlicensed personnel before and now an RN.So if any of you who are lucky or have a chance to work in a hospital as a unit assistant or unlicense personnel, grab that opportunity because in time that you became an RN,there is a better chance they'll hire you if there's an open position.

Yep......AKA "internals".

That's what my USA nursing sisters (we're not related by blood or anything, just friends) tell me also. That's why I've been lucky to hook up with a few of them who are already working as new grad nurses in some very nice well known hospitals (some university level and some private ones) from up north to down in San Diego , who also have friends in other States. I have to say that these girls are pretty smart and most graduated in the tops in their classes.

Yep...my sister started as a new grad in one of the Kaiser hospital in Bay Area way back 2003 and she graduated batch 1995 in the Philippines.I guess they were not strict before probably because the US economy were still stable and they're lacking of nurses compared to now, over loaded of nurses:).

Yes, your sister for sure got in at a very good time. Do you know what others (both PH nurses and US nurses) call the Kaiser hospital group? Phillipine General Hospital, lol.

What does your sister think of the current issues facing us recent PH grads?

If you have a pharmacology subject alone, then put the grade and hours required which is at least 54 hours. If it's integrated, check Integrated, then an explanation letter written by your dean stating that you've covered pharmacology integrated to your major subjects and taught drug calculations, administration of medications etc.Ask them to put a school seal.

We dont need to submit a nursing record of experience right? Cause we're applying for equivalency?

Indeed. But if you have at least 48 months of paid bedside nursing experience then might as well include it.Good luck:)
