Can anyone help me here, I'm planning to take the LVN exam because I just got denied by CABON because of the concurrency issue..I just want to know:

Method #3 - Equivalent Education and/or Experience(the PHARMACOLOGY course)Do I need to submit it also? and how? or I just need to submit only the

Method #2 - Graduates of an Out-of-State School of Practical/Vocational Nursing.

BTW, I'm an international graduate, Registered Nurse from the Philippines but I can't sit for the NCLEX-RN exam that is why I decided to take this one. Hope someone can answer my question thank you.

Hi Im an RN from other state.. can i Transfer my license here in Cali as LVN...??

RN and LVN licenses are different entities. You cannot endorse your RN license for an LVN license. Sure, they are both nursing licenses; however, they are ruled by different Boards in CA - Board of Registered Nursing for the former and Board of Vocational Nursing & Psychiatric Technician for the latter

Your options if you want to work in CA are: 1) Try to endorse your current RN license for a CA RN license (note that there are concurrency issues happening) 2) Apply for the LVN licensure (there are 5 methods to qualify to apply; select the applicable method)

my gahd this is still unresolved? lol has anyone gotten any kind of license (lvn/rn) yet?

Hi everyone! joining in on your convo....Im also a grad from the phils. same situation - denied by CBRN. So i applied in another State (Oregon). passed the NCLEX-RN and got a license. since then i've been applying for a job all over the State pretty much...NOTHING and it's been at least 5 months!....what the heck is happening?? I couldn't read all the pages of the forum, there are 26 after all. so did anyone ever apply for the LVN in California and was successfully issued a go to take the NCLEX-PN? thank u fellow filipinos/nurses i appreciate it. we outcasts and denieds gotta stick together you know..hehe..

Which state are you looking for work? There are many US nurses especially new grads struggling to find work so it isn't just you

It's been a struggle alright.... I'm looking for work in the State of Oregon...i've applied to many "new grad" opportunities but have been denied in all of them...i've tried and both hospital and LTC but all of them want experience...even when they say "new grad" they still pick those with some experience...so it isn't just me, thanks for letting me know.

Kabayan, just so you know I have previously posted an article that stated the demand for PH grads and nurses for the USA will not be needed till the year 2020. For now, the top hiring priority will be for more USA educated grads and nurses as they too are having a very tough time. To be honest, I think it will go beyond the 2020 year mark, even if the economy becomes stronger in the next 5 years. There is simply more and more local USA nurses that are being educated.

I mean really, when was the last time anyone from the Phils posted "hey, I got the hospital job", "guys, I start my new hospital unit next week", "yea, I got an interview". I am referring to a hospital job work, not LTC or SNF or personal care giver or sub-acute. Nothing wrong with those jobs if that works for you, but like myself and like many of my friends, we prefer to be in peds, ICU, ER, L&D, OR, the many other specialty units.

Just like my friend's cousin in Australia has been looking for a hospital nurse job for over 18 months, no luck, with those jobs also going to the local Australian grads. Same truth in the States.

Kabayan,if you look for a school,it has to be approved by the BRN.I looked into boards approved schools, unfortunately I didn't see it on the list. It's useless if you finish the entire deficiencies but the board wouldn't recognize it.Piece of advice, make sure the school

Is approved by the RN board.Good luck

hi kabayan I just want to ask something, but I cant pm you I think your inbox is full and need to delete some...Tnx..:)

steppybay: I would definitely prefer being in a hospital, so much more learning opportunities. But i'm just not getting it, I'm willing to endorse to other states but it's just so expensive...i know they prefer their own graduates. That's just the way it is, if we want California wages we would have to pay California tuition. It's a money thing (when is it ever not?) so have you already applied for LVN in california after being denied to apply for the Nclex-RN?

The HR from my work says that: One of the factor that affects the employment is the distance of the employee to the workplace.. So maybe when you tend to apply for a job in oregon the employers is basically looking at your address which is california.. My suggestion is to write in your cover letter that you are willing to relocate nearby.. if ever they will accept your application.. im gonna be transferring to oregon in 2 months.. as of now, I am looking for a job here in cali for me to earn before moving to oregon..

No plans at all to take the LVN then try to get into a LVN-RN bridge program, that's going to be too $$$, could take 2 years or more to complete if one can get enrolled (long waitlist, no guarantees) and the LVN job market in CA is one of the worst, with many hospitals (zero desire to work in nursing homes, LTC and SNF's) as many places are letting go of LVN staff and actually more LVN's are being graduated than RN's.

Like two of my close friends, we plan and actively researching the States we plan to work and stay in for at least 5 years or longer. So sometime next year we will actually drive to the States of interest and of course, go for the NCLEX RN. We figure the time if one takes the LVN-RN route, we might already have the needed working experience as an RN, granted we will not be able to work in a state enforcing the concurrency rules, but that's why we plan to look around first. You know, places to stay, eats, general life in that State and city.

Like from what my USA RN friends are telling me, it's also when HR and NM's are looking at the applicant pool, they are looking for items that makes them more outstandng than the other person's resume.

Imagine the people in charge of hiring are looking at the top 5-10 candidates: one set are US educated, another set of local grads and one set of foreign grads. Remember that there's usually 100's of applicants and say 10 open jobs. How else can HR determine who's the best fit for their hospital?

There are looking at GPA's, lots of volunteer work, charity work, well written letters of recommendations, great references, any past nursing experience, certifications, etc.
