Complying with CA BON deficient courses

As the title states for the folks that have to take certain courses such as OB, MS or either Psyc, has anyone visited and spoken to any Nursing directors at the approved CA BON Nursing Schools listed on the website?

If so please share us your thoughts on the matter, it would help thousands of Nursing Graduates that received this special requirement that we need to comply with the CA BON before NCLEX examination.

I was responding to Bay Area resident, who went outside the US to get an education, the board of nursing in CA has decided his education did not meet CA standards. To confound the process he was allowed to sit for the nclex and failed. In the long run the 4 years of schooling was wasted. The majority of PH nurses who sit for the nclex fail around 70 percent compared to 10 percent U S.

His education may meet the standard I the PH but according to CA he does not meet the standards, and in no way does it reflect the caring nature a person has, but no one can be a great nurse when only 30percent meet the us standards.

I am responding to your respose to Bay Area. The 4 years of nursing is not wasted. You make it sound as if PH nurses are not a good USA nurse? why just because they dont review hesi, kaplan, ati, and prep for nclex-rn how us USA nurses do?.. For example USA nurses are good at nclex-rn, not good at bedside care compared to PH nurses. How do I know? I work by both on the floor. You are correct about no one can be a great nurse when only 30% meet nclex-rn.

Great question, from what I have read here posted by PH nurses, PH clinicals have inexperienced instructors, not every student has there own patient. Also US hospitals have computered based charting, high tech equipment. I believe that is one of the reasons why the pass rate is low since PH students do not have strong clinical experiences to draw on.

The other concept is delegation, since there are limited resources PH nurses tend to do it all and do not learn the skills of delegation.

is the observation that PH nurses are better bedside nurses based on fact or personal observation? I would love to read a peer reviewed article based on data.Of course there are great PH nurses but are patient outcomes superior to to US trained nurses? If so the US should be adapting nursing practice to PH standards. that would make a great graduate project!

in reference to my the 4 years wasted is the fact many PH nursing students will near qualify to work in the USA due the fact they can not take the nclex or pass the nclex.

It's official from a e-mail broadcast from CSU-Fresno and forwarded to me by a batchmate still looking:

(I deleted the actual name and contact numbers per the TOS) of the below:

Dear International Nurses,

I am writing to inform you that unfortunately we will not be offering the OB and Critical Care classes this summer at Fresno State due to lack of faculty. We are hoping to have these courses in place for summer of 2014. We will keep your information and notify you if any classes become available in the near future. If you have any questions please feel free to contact our Nursing Department office at (559)XXX-xxxx. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Just received a denial letter from my analyst! although i expected this will really happen. Now, i am ambivalent whether to just take the 2 classes (ob&ms) which i know will be hard looking for schools offering this or just do nclex pn and take lvn-rn bridge afterwards. Anyone having the same insight? Thanks

thatis because of the concurrency clinical cases. what about going back in the same university where u graduated and take the same ncm and finish the case with the same sem? making sense right? ask the CA BRn coz that is what i will do

i dont know if thats possible for me. Did you already ask the ca brn if they will let you do that and let you take the exam afterwards?

Doesn't work that way, other batchmates asked and others have reported the same: You MUST have completed your entire nursing program PRIOR to your graduation date.

if they will let u take the ob and med surg bcoz of the concurrency well why not do it in your school where you can finish 3 things at the same time like ncm rle and the clinical cases at same sem esp now that there are few students enrolling in bsn esp in the philippines now. ask the BRN coz i know someone did it already

Well, that's certainly good news if true!

Did this person you know get the ATT in CA already? As this is the first time ever posted of anyone meeting the concurrency in CA by getting the deficient courses re-done by going to the Phils. but again that's good news if they are going to make it possible versus trying to get into the near impossible CA schools.

So you're saying the CA BON allowed this person you know to retake the needed deficient courses in the PH (not in CA) by submitting another transcript showing proof of them making them concurrent?

We had come to understand that the deficient courses could only be taken in CA and this was to prevent the possibility of the passing of false documents. Recently, we come to find out that the CA BON will accept out of state courses to meet the concurrency rules (as posted by lyly and SoCalNurses88).

is that possible? i think board of nursing California only allowed us to take ob and ms here in CA
