CA BRN New Requirements For NCLEX RN international students

World Registration

Published

I had already registered online in Pearson Vue but I think I'm not yet eligible to take the test. Is there an expiration date for my registration at PV?

I received a letter from CA BON requesting for new requirements such as:

  1. SS number
  2. Local license in the Philippines
  3. Copy of ur clinical rotation schedule for your cases: Assisted/Actual deliveries, cord dressing, and major/minor surgeries
  4. A complete school curriculum hundred pages or more sent directly from ur nursing school to the board. (the board doesn't accept the condensed version of the curriculum
  5. A one-page curriculum outline and academic calendar.

Fortunately, I had the first 2 requirements but I am worried that the last 3 will take time to be accomplished.

I am wondering if it's just me who have this requirement. Most of NCLEX passers I know weren't required on those listed above. It's really hard to focus on review while your thinking of this :uhoh3:

Having a batchmate approved does not necessarily mean that the rest will be too. A batchmate of mine was approved but the rest of us denied and all of us shared the same concurrency issue. Weird part is, the same analyst who approved my batchmate's application was also the same one who rejected another batchmate of mine.

TO iirnited: Wow, that is great your batchmate got the ATT (from CA), but disappointing news about the rest of you guys. Did this particular batchmate already pass the NCLEX-RN in CA?

If so, how about your batchmates could they mention in writing to the CA BON that they should review their applications since the one lucky batchmate was given the ATT?

I don't think it hurts to ask, I mean all they can say is "No", but at least they tried rather go to another State or try becoming an LVN or take and pay for expensive deficient classes.

Nope, no suggestions at all except to go back to school or take the NCLEX-LVN.

I've been searching schools. So far I only applied to one-- LA pierce college last week. I have an Interview this November 5 (which is pretty quick response) to determined if the Department will be able to provide the coursework that I needed for Spring 2013. I hope I won't repeat all the classes. Well, it does not matter anymore as long as I can get in their program. The waiting list is very long that's what the nursing secretary told me. It's by slots I guess.

Yes, I submitted all my RLE clinical Rotations from the PRC.

Good thing you have found one! yup, I also heard about the long line [waiting] to secure a slot, some took 1 to 2 yrs of waiting. Always hope for the best! Good luck

Hope you make an update, if you get accepted :)

I am starting to think that this concurrency issue is just a tip of iceberg, that THEY JUST DONT WANT TO ACCEPT FOREIGN GRADUATE. Hope its not.

The concurrency issue has been in writing for ages now, some states have that rule in their books longer than others, but it is not a conspiracy against foreign graduates.

It is at the BON's prerogative when to enforce the rule and when to be a little lax (like in the 1990s for CA).

While waiting for my eligibility in CO look who showed up in my mail box today....

My eligibility from good ol CA. I sent my application back in Feb 2012, and I had to deal with the never ending requirements. So i think its a case to case basis.

I just need to study and pass the exam now. thank god!

Hey killerbee! were your cases concurrent? That's good you received your att. that's some long process. hmm i guess patience is important.

probably kuyafern I asked my school to send me a copy of my cases so i can check. They also asked me to send them copy of my us passport (which took time coz i had no clue where to find my old passport) and schedule of rotation. I just sent the letter to my school and they said they'll try to send all the requirements they asked for. In some point I lost patience and applied to cgfns which is still in process for review

Congrats to you! You are truly one of the 1% that actually got thru!

Do you know if any batchmates from the same exact graduation time also applied into CA or any of the other affected concurrency states got their ATT?

Are you a recent 2012 graduate?

Please pass the NCLEX the very first time, as who knows if you don't and upon the re-application, they may rule that the previous submitted transcripts upon their review was not concurrent, then, you're back to square one. Good luck on your exam!

You mean it actually takes 9 months before they send a response???? I applied last June 2012 and I complied all the additional requirements last September (as per my school). Until now, haven't heard any form them... Appreciate your response :)

Are you a recent 2012 graduate?

I think his not, since he passed his application February of 2012

@steppybay - Not that I know of, some already took the exam before the concurrency issue, some got denied and some are still complying with the requirements. Im from batch 2009 btw. Yes I will study hard for it and surely wont take this for granted. Thank you!

@nomad 29 - It usually takes them 45-60 days to reply. I mailed my reapplication on Feb 12 they replied on March asking for the requirements. My school mailed it on April but still need to look for my passport. Summer passed I focused more on my competitions(non nursing related) then did some spring cleaning found it then mailed it on Aug. I recieved a letter from them again asking to correct my name coz I left my second name on the application, mailed it on Oct. Finally got this letter last friday. I suggest if you have not heard from them after 70-80 days to call and verify. I don't think that there should be a reason for them to lag on your papers, we all know that their latest requirements made quite a good number of applicants to rethink in applying to the state.

Hi Killerbee

Thanks, I should probably make a call, because I am starting to think that they haven't received any :nailbiting: (paranoia attacks me)

But Goodluck, it is somewhat a breath of fresh air to hear that someone slip thru the CABON evaluation :)
